I would rather you didn't act like a fool...

OK, it's common to hear Runescape sucks or it's ugly, and I understand the comments about it being ugly. But, why does it suck exactly? Seems to be one of the best free games out there, especially for younger kids. I don't play it personally, but I used to a long time ago when I was a 10 or 11 (just a guess, this was a long time ago).

This thread is not just for Runescape! You can post about any game that you like, or liked, and feel that game would be perfect if they only...

Now, I just want you all to know that I am NOT a runescape fanboy. I'm just doing a little bit of research so I don't make the same mistakes.

Please, do not post if all you are trying to do is increase your post count. By that, I mean don't say any of the following:

-It's too ugly to look at. [This is not really the reason, this is just what you're telling yourself. This game is actually not THAT ugly. It just doesn't suite your tastes. If you agree with that, then please state what kind of graphics you prefer. Otherwise, I'd like to ask you not to post.]

-It gets boring after a while. [Every game gets boring after a certain amount of time. The more fun it is for you, the longer it lasts.]

You can, however say why it gets boring after a while. But don't say:

-Nothing to do. [This is a lie. There's plenty to do for a free game.]

You can, however, say what additions to the game play would hold your attention longer.

If the combat was what bored you, please state what would have been better.

If you haven't noticed the pattern in what I'm saying, it's that you should post the EXACT reason you think it "sucks". You can say whatever you like, just be descriptive and give examples/reasons.

About my game

I'm just going to describe it so that you get a feel for what the game is like and so your suggestions make sense. It's going to be in java, maybe flash. I'll be scripting it in a different language, then converting it, so I'll probably need some java/flash or w/e experts to correct my mistakes or even help me along the way with certain problems. Game focuses on game play, but graphic quality will be at the point where it wont get in the way. It may even be fun to look at if I can get someone else to help me haha. WASD movement. Grind will NOT be the games purpose, but there may be some if I have to include it to make gameplay worth while. I still haven't gotten to creating the combat or experience yet because it's proving to be a problem (this is where my lack of java knowledge really hurts because I can't work out the bugs myself... I am learning though hehe.) At this point it's in java and I don't really plan on switching to flash but I was thinking about it sort of. The combat is probably going to be instanced turn based tactical battles (think Final Fantasy tactics/Dofus + Pokemon). May be hard to understand but I want to leave this for later. Well, any more questions or suggestions feel free to ask.

Runescape was indeed a very fun when i started playing MMORPGs but after you do all the free members things and you have no money to pay for membership then there is not much you can do it the game itself and thus that made it boring.

The quests were the only highlight, but even those got boring.

Runescape was good in it's own, free-game sense with it's versatility of skills and it's ever expanding list of additions.

I just hate the community. Bunch a' little six year old brats who think they rock cuz' they're level 30. Woo for you, now go suck a stick.

The community sucks.
The graphics are worse then the N64.
The game play redefines grind.
They actually have the balls to make people pay for it.
Lives up to very few standards.
The music is horrible.
Very generic.
Tries to be funny from time to time.
Most of the equipment is just the weaker equipment with a different color.
Model design is boring.
Terrain design is boring.

Hmm, I think you guys misunderstood the point. This doesn't belong in the runescape section. Maybe the title is a bit misleading. Anyway, read the first post before posting. If a mod thinks it belongs in the RS section, then I guess that's fine, but I don't really want runescape players to respond to this. I want you to focus on what made the game, not the game itself... Hmm, how do I say this...

The community is awfully bad (see this forum). I dont think i have ever seen a worse community in a mmo ever.

Graphics are bad but its a browser game so cant really complain.

Pvp sucks now. Old wilderness/duel arena were the only fun things about runescape but they ruined both. Wilderness got replaced with a stupid minigame where you cant even solo in and have to fight players 30 lvls higher and what not. Duel arena has so many limitations that its pointless. Cant even stake 1 on 1 anymore(well you can but not more than 15k).

Jagex are ****ing communists for making updates like grand exchange. You cant sell items for what you like to sell them for, you have to sell within a price range that is set by jagex.

Generally 90% updates suck and also the new items they release and graphical changes they make look horrible.
