what you mean like in arcade shooters where you toddle along annihilating the alien scum thinking "hey wow this is pretty cool" then you get some leet powerups and start frying shit with lazers and rocket propelled fleschettes then all of a sudden the boss flies onto the screen and takes up 50% of the playing area, then he releases a hellstorm of laser death which takes up the other 50% of the screen thus obliterating your puny ship without so much as a 'by your leave', then you have to replay that segment over and over learning by wrote when and where his attacks are going to come from just so you can shave off a few centimetres of his armour with your puny weapons (which previously seemed to be doing a really good job of killing his minions but now feel like they could even blat a limp rabbit).... then all of a sudden when you think youve destroyed him, when your palms are sweaty, when your bones ache from gripping the controller too tightly, when the mould lines of the controller are imprinted on your hand and its 4am and you still havent slept a wink, explosions fill the screen, you rejoice, you think youve won.... but then some kind of mechanical contraption or secret missile base or some other far fetched shit emerges from the boss' ashes and the fight continues for another five hours through TRIAL AND ERROR gameplay rather than ACTUAL STRATEGY so you are literally FORCED into playing the game in the EXACT WAY that the game WANTS you to play until you are reduced to SCREAMING at the stupidity of it all and are ready to embed the controller and the ENTIRE CONSOLE into the solid concrete wall next to you BUT YOU STILL COME BACK FOR MORE THE MORNING AFTER oh my god why the hell does anyone even do this why the hell do i do this holy shit i need to rethink my life and stop playing THISPOSGAMEWHICHMAKESMEWANTTOFUCKINGKILLYOUALL

I don't consider bosses in RPG's to be bosses, unless the RPG is really creative, because all you really have to do is grind to beat him. So I will talk about other genres, where bosses really need a skill or two to beat.

Usually, when I die over and over and over, and I get frustrated to no end, I put the control down, breathe, and come back tomorrow. Took me three days to beat the Aigaion(sp?) from Ace Combat 6 this way. Took me a full day just to figure out how to shoot at his lousy fucking weak-point. Not to mention those missiles were a pain in the ass.

Well.. I wouldn't say all that. I can get pretty abusive at times. But I usually put down the game in time so I can come back tomorrow, and I don't develop a festering wound of hatred for the game so I never touch it again. That happened once with Grandia, and it was four years later until I finally saw that damn ending cut-scene.

Whenever I get to a boss I can't kill I get excited. There's nothing more I love then a boss that requires me to spend several hours trying to kill it.

If it was an offline RPG, I would check guides and see what I did wrong.

If it was an MMORPG, I'd just level up more or get better gear.
