You're taking this way too seriously. The world is run by advertisements. Almost everything you'll see on the internet is run by advertisements. Without advertisements, you're not going to see a whole lot on the content produced. I enjoy podcasts. I really do, and do you know how all those people get the bandwidth for the show? Adversitising. You're a blogger yourself, so you should understand this next thing. Do you know how many people can make a living off blogging? Advertisements. Do you know how the radio, magazine, and newspaper industries would do without advertisements?
Stop taking this too seriously. Advertisements are everywhere, and to be honest, they don't affect me at all. Besides, I use NoScript and Adblock so I hardly see anything. I honestly don't care if I see McDonalds in Maple Story. I don't care if they have Best Buy and Target stores. It just seems more realistic. Advertisements in Video games are a great way of earning money for the company. Cyraan already gave you a mathematical schematic on how it works so I won't repeat what he typed. Advertising really gives Nexon more money, and I personally want Nexon to have as much as they can get. With more money, they'll be able to hire more workers, and with more workers, they'll lead to faster patches, and more updates. If you had to look at Best Buy ads while killing snails, but get promised 4th job next week, I really don't think you'd be complaining about these ads.
You're seriously blowing this out of proportion. Just because you see a Best Buy in Maple Story doesn't mean you have to go out and buy from Best Buy's. Not everyone listens to advertisements. If you saw an ad that wanted you to jump off a bridge, I doubt you're going to do it. People aren't stupid. They know when to draw the line. ThunderaWolf already mentioned this, but I'll say it again. These advertisements aren't really going to make kids disobey parents. If a kid wanted to get Target, they'd need their parents consent before going. You make it sound like every kid is an idiot. You make it sound like just because they say a Target in game, they'd have to go to Target to buy something.
If you really hate the advertisements, ignore them.
You have yet to give me good reasons why advertising is bad. If you think you already have the reasons, please give me a list, and I'll try to disprove them.
