Finally,I'm probably getting a computer by my birthday and I want you guys to give me some advice.
Now,i'll start by showing off my chinese Ferrari.Yes,it's my current computer. P4 3.0GHZ,1GB,X1600 PRO 512MB AGP (Shared),140GB HDD.Not exactly new and it breaks my hearth not beeing able to play Assassin's Creed because it lacks raw power. I'm going to get a budget of 750€ approx. What I had in mind would be: A 50€ at max for stylish new case. 100€ for a new HD.I don't want it very big,I won't spend more than 150GBs probably.300GB will work but I want it to be fast,i've ran games too slow for far too long. A GOOD processor, that's something I won't get left out.Since I have no experience in Dual Cores,i'll let you guys help me in this subject.I'm willing to spend here 150-200€. In the RAM subject,It will depend on how much money is left over.I want 3GB,since games already ask for 3GBs. Motherboard's will be in the price range of 100€ too.Nothing fancy,i'm not going to use SLI. A power source that can take a 8800 GTS,it'll be 50€ or something. Graphic card might be the most expensive part I may get.I want a 8800GTS or GTX. EDIT: Then again... http://www.infosom.net/catalog/produ...oducts_id=3702 The new 9600GT doesn't look very expensive. To end,I have to say that I have a store here that sells hardware much cheaper.I'm yet to check the prices but i'll probably save a bit more than anywhere else. If you guys could help me out and give me suggestions,i'll be very grateful.

I'll just list a few things.
Sorry if I'm using American currency. - A P.C hard drive is pretty cheap, nowadays. I got an external 300 gig for only $100. ![]() - Processor wise, I'd suggest a quad-core. The Intel chip is very cheap, right now. You should look into it. - If you want 3 gigs of ram, you'd have to buy Vista. XP only supports up to 2 gigs. - 8800s are very cheap now. You can get one for about $200. - A power supply of 600 watts will do it. Thats like $40. - Mother boards go for about $150-200.

Give me your old processor/motherboard and video card so I can upgrade too, I cant be bothered buying new pc, waste of money.
I do not know facts just guesses but I think 8800 is better than 9600, most times highend of older is faster than lowend of new. I wouldnt get quad core, since I got no clue if games even support it. Maybe like Pentium 2.6ghz duo, or faster. But then, Im cheap... and 2.6ghz duo is pretty cheap. Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 The processor is "Boxed" and I cant bother now explain what it is. 150.90 € In finnish online store including VAT. |

- I'd go with the Q6600. The new generation of games are beginning to support more then two cores at a time, and it makes a huge difference in performance. Such games as UT3 support quad-cores, although it is nothing compared to how it'll be in the upcoming months/years. It hardly support quad-core's potential, but you can see it is in fact superior to a duo core.
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3127&p=4 Plus, you can overclock from 2.4ghz to 3.0ghz if you want a better frame rate on a high end game that doesn't support all four cores. - I would recommend getting at least 2X SLI just because it'll be useful in the future if you want to upgrade the rig. Otherwise, go with an Asus motherboard as they get pretty good reviews. Gigabyte makes good mobos as well. - For a video card, don't get the 9600 GT. It is not as good as an 8800GT, which is so cheap now with all the rebates Newegg offers. You can probably get a 9600GT for around $160-$170 after rebates, but adding $10-$20 gets you an 8800GT with superior performance. - I would get a 320GB hard drive. Plenty of space, not very expensive. - I love this case, and it's only $80 with the rebate; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 - I would get a 600w power supply. - Good RAM brands are; Corsair, Gskill (My favorite, very great for overclocking), and Crucial. You can get RAM cheap, but I would pick it towards the end. As it depends on what else you get. Here's an example of a good brand, good RAM, yet cheap. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098 |

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L or ABIT IP35-E - both of these are good overclockers and I have a ds3l myself and it works great, if you want to SLI though you will have to choose a different board.
CPU: Intel Q6600 - more future proof than a dual core, but since socket 775 is said to become outdated soon you could go with a budget core 2 duo and buy a decent cooler and overclock it, would be cheaper too. Heat Sink: ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 120mm 2-ball UFO Bearing - You will probably want to overclock the q6600 as much as possible, you should be able to hit 3ghz, this wont be needed if you're fine with stock. Memory: G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2Gigabyte) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - great ram for the price, you could drop this down to 2GB if you're going XP. Graphic Card: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB GDDR3 PCI-E 2.0 Dual DVI Video Card - free shipping and $20 rebate on buy.com, EVGA or XFX will be fine too. Case: COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $80 case, not sure how much it is in euro but I have this case and i love it Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply 90 -get something stronger if you want to sli Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Hard Drive - 500GB, SATA, 3.5", 32 MB, 7200RPM - 500GB will last you awhile, or a very little while if you're like me ![]() Media Drive: SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S203B OEM Comes to around $1200 shipped in US/CAN, a bit over your budget but you could always get a cheaper case, heatsink, 2gb ram, hell you could use some of your old drives xD. Do your own research on the parts and check if they're right for you. good luck

Thanks for all guys!
I've seen some pretty major price difference from US and where I live, for instance that case MrWaffles suggested only costs 40€ here.I'll be checking out the store after I check my grades tomorrow. Everyone seems to suggest the quad core and that's probably what i'll go with.Yesterday,I was making an inventory and the sum total was 650€ (With the 9600 GT,however I chose cheaper RAM from Kingston.Perfect would be that 2GB set from Corsair,it's my favorite) so I don't know if to throw in a 8800GT and hope it's enough left over money for the Quad Core. PS:I had no idea XP only supported up to 2GB.Too bad I don't have enough left over money to buy Vista,i'll wait for Christmas for that.Plus, the other hardware should overpower the 2GBs.
