I love the way how everyone who *wants to make games* always make the first step of their conquest to be learning C++. Most make out like they will spend a few weeks looking at it then making their game in it, where it will take over a year or so to be able to code in C++ competently enough to make a worthwhile game in it, and thats if you are at least used to programming and have other resources available to you.

Im all for people learning programming languages and trying to make their own stuff, but this area of the forum is full of EXACTLY the same posts...

*i wanna lern how 2 make games, anyone know were to look*... next song...

You don't need to learn C++, it all depends what you want to make and how powerful. Programming languages like Java, C++, C etc are High level languages and usually if you know one it is quite easy to learn another. C++ is usually not recommended for a first language because it is not as clear cut and clean as other languages. That is simply because you have more freedom in C++. For your first language I would truely suggest Java, or Visual Basic.
Anywho, learning how to make a game really doesn't take that long, but the understanding of it kind of does. A MMO is even harder.

Ooh! Someone called my name! That's the first time that happened. Sorry for the delay in responding, my computer's in the shop, so I'm not on here an often as usual.

Anyway, Lothia is right. You don't have to learn C++. You can learn any language you want, it all depends on what you want to do.

But if you want help in learning C++, I can help you. As for being your 'teacher', uh... I dunno

I can definitely point you in the right direction, and give you help with specific problems when you need it, but uh.... giving out lessons isn't my thing.

That said, I can definitely help.

So, uh... you're using Windows right? Just making sure before we get started.

Pretty much any time after 6 EST on weekdays usually, and pretty much any time on weekends before 9 or so.

I spent 3 years mastering C++, well getting to a level where I can call myself a master. I could not even dream of making a game until last year.

C++ was my first language, and man am I happy. I HATE HATE HATE Object oriented languages that basically just get run through a C++ converter.

Learn memory management the right way, or get left behind like all the other java/python/ruby/ whatever else coders.

On a more serious note, if you want to make a 2d game eventually, learn one of the easy ones like ruby or python or java.

Anything 3D and you HAVE to use c++. I mean you don't have to, but come on....your game will be a flaming pile of garbage if you don't.

Wow... The guy trying to get you to buy gold is a loser.
Anyway, good luck on your quest to make a game! And, I have tried learning C++ but... it was really hard!
Have fun learning!
