The only thing there good enough for new videogames is your OS, im afraid, that computer is hella old, and partial upgrades will end up in bottlenecking and in a bad performance, I'd tell you to save money, but since you cant, this is what I'd recommend:
1st of all, buy your pieces on internet and make the computer yourself, it's not hard if you follow the instructions, and it might even be funny and exciting. You can't afford to pay 50$ just to get it done, im afraid. VGA: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130328 179$ Quite decent for its prize and easily upgradeable, you can purchase another and make them SLI if you upgrade your mobo also later on. MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059 89$ Pretty good mobo, gigabyte delivers for sure, and this piece, being a bit old, is madly cheap for its quality. Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116070 92 $ This one will overclock decently and will give you enough speed not to bottleneck the system, while keeping it cheap. PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341010 79$ Pretty good PSU, will be enough to get your processor at 3-3,2 GHz with ease and saving a lot of money on that ![]() RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134046 38$ Good ram for its time, right now it will work decently on your rig, and you can upgrade to 3 or 4 gb whenever you want Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156053 23$ Will do the job Hard drive? Use the one you already have at the moment and sound card, the one integrated. Hope it helped. |

That is his system. I.E. There is zero point in upgrading this system. He needs a new system overhaul of processor+mobo+ram+graphics card. |

For a budget core2 setup it will be something like: Mobo - $125 CPU - $150 Vid Card - $125 (roughly for an 8600gt, add $75 more for 8800gt) Ram - $55 (2gig) = $455 - $530 CAD This is about what it will cost me (prices off the top of my head, more than likely can be found a bit cheaper). Given his PC is so old though, the case is probably garbage, as is the power supply, and perhaps the harddrive as well. I already have the ram and vid card, and a brand new hard drive so really I only need to upgrade my Mobo+cpu. If I had to do more than that, I'd consider just getting a full out new PC. |

You need a total reamp of your computer not just improve.
Salvage your Hard Drive, your DVD drive and anything else you want and pack up,you are going on a shopping journey. Now,the 8800GT costs 1706€,atleast here.I'd pick that.On means of processors,AMD is kind of gaming processors but Intel blows AMD chips out of the water so get either a Quadcore or that Wolfdale processor,I heard it's good. Add 40€ for RAM,60€ for a decent powersource, new case (I doubt an old case will fit the new parts, way too big for old cases) and a new processor.Oh and new fans or whatnot.

)Ok, back on topic. The graphics card all depends on your resolution & size of your monitor. You won't need much to power the newest games on 1024x768, however you're going to need some extra juice if you play at 1920x1200. For the games you mentioned, anything above a 8800GT will be overkill at 1280x1024 and below. So the smaller your screen, the less you're going to need to spend. You can't really do much with your computer right now, id just build a new one and keep your windows xp. A $500 gaming pc is possible. Check this out.
