If you have basic knowledge, you'd know you're shit out of luck with that budget. For those games on high, you'd need at least a good processor, and a video card, and throw in a case with a couple fans to cool all that. Good processor - $200 (Maybe more, I went low) Good video card - $200 (Maybe more, I went low) Case w/fans - 75$ (Give or take, depends on what you want) Throw in a motherboard ($100-$200), RAM (60$ for high performance memory), power supply ($35), optical drives, etc., and you're already way over your budget. |

No, thats not low at all. The 8800 is a great graphics card and its about $200.
If you want a good gaming rig, you need 2 or more gigs of ram, a dual core, or quad core processor, and a good graphics card, which I mentioned above. In all, your looking at a total of.. 400 some dollars. |

Then you still need...
New graphics card. More RAM. Possibly better motherboard. Possibly higher power supply. Extra fans for cooling all the new stuff. New processor. You almost certainly don't need another motherboard, it just depends on the processor and such that you want to get. You obviously didn't understand "maybe more, I went low". Instead of giving the max price, I gave a lower, more commonly used, price. So it could be more, hence the "maybe more", because it's not the highest, "I went low". Sorry for my misunderstanding of your intent in my first post, but you're still pushing it. You should post more in-depth specs first though, as you may only need a better processor and video card, and not need anymore RAM or anymore fans. 8800GT superclocked by EVGA. (On Newegg it's about $200 with $30 mail-in rebate) Q6600. (Look on Newegg, I believe it's around $200) Or the Wolfdale 3.0ghz 45nm. |

Hes only gonna need to upgrade his motherboard if he has, an agp slot and an old processor socket (my motherboard)
Graphics card and cpu leads you around 400, which gives you 100 to spend on a cooling system and ram. So yes, you have enough money to spend on what you like. |

It looks like he's got a socket 939 board... And its pretty old... I'd say at least 6-7 years old. He most likely has an AGP or its onboard video. It is a Compaq after all.
And if he goes overboard with the graphics card, he'll need a new PSU. Changing the CPU is out of the question, they don't make CPUs for that board anymore. Unless he buys something very old, but why? Its already a 2.4ghz. How much ram does your system have? |
