I have a concept for an mmorpg that has some different visions than any other game I have ever seen. I really want to make it happen.
I have the game all nutted out and lots of details on how it would work etc, but no idea about how to make it happen. How do I go about finding a game builder and making my dream come to life? |

Well besides what WiseGuy said you can do another thing which is $$$$, yep pay them for it. Also! At some Game Expos they have things for this, one was Penny Arcade 2 years ago people would tell them their ideas at which point the ideas could be used freely in games, while this sounds like a loss in your things, they sometimes choose some of these people to assist in a future game. And if they didn't choose then chances are your idea was nothing great.

So then.. how do I go about starting a game company?
If these guys are soo too cool to have a good game thrown at them, I will start my own and change the gaming standards and leave them all broke.... mwhahhahaha. Seriously.. who knows about building games? How many people do I need, what sort of people am I looking for?..... |

In addition to be able to do AT LEAST SOME C++, and having the game all ready to code and graphic, you would need one of the following:
1. Lots of cash 2. Have experience in legal stuff 3. Be an artist of some kind 4. Be a genius math wiz Otherwise, you can't just hand a programmer a paper that says "lookit this kewl game! Make it for me plz!" He will walk away. |

if you think that you can just show up and shout "I HAVE A GREAT GAME IDEA" and then go away and over night a group of people will have created it without any input from you then you are quite frankly... retarded.
If it was this simple to make a game everyone would do it, and if you have no idea how game dev works i doubt your idea is very good/posible. Learn to create games yourself and stop depending on others. Also how are you expecting devs to be drawn into your idea if you haven't even mentiond what it is?

You cannot just "go" to E3, it is invite only and almost impossible to go to. OnRPG use to be invited to E3 before they got smaller last year and I do not know if we where invited after. As well, like someone said, you need $ and or investments. For this I would suggest getting a business degree, know one will have a meeting with you for investments ($) if you have nothing to show. Get your game on paper, it should be at least 100 pages, try and make a contract with some large company and you will have to be lenient, pretty much give up all creative rights and only get money based on sales and how big of a game it is. That is your best chance to making the game you want in the next 5 years. If you are willing to wait, then I would say still get a degree in business or computer science, start the game as a independent project while getting your degree and slowly build hype and others who are willing to work on the project. Your biggest problem right now is that you have no $, no credentials, no experience and no skills that you can really put behind yourself for others to follow.

I feel like adding to the revertible statements in this post, since most of the tips made here can not really be changed much by the standard, the context can be changed to display many different varieties of class, to which you can approach many of the questions asked in your post's.
If you plan on making a company, its shamefully simple, and blunt, you can not say you have a company without first having purchased a copyright and trademark for your name and media. (This does exclude material, and media copyrights when first made) To answer a deeper main question that was asked, or rather my revised version of it, my own words could state, the reason many game companies will not see to it your view of what a game should be like, or your game idea could very well be the inevitability of your constraint on your idea. Yes it is your idea, but many legal activities would have to ensue in the process in which if you are to allow them to publish your idea into a game. Along with this in mind the effect of say, EA just willingly allowing the general public to say we want this in a game, is less inappeasable than a surprise. Though you may think your idea is great, it may be vague, and kind of unformatted for an industry standard. Basically the professionals are more on an elites side than a common grounds. Simply put, they do not take outside ideas. Most game companies, will act this way. Now for finding a game developer, to develop your idea, is a bit more parable if your looking for developers to develop your idea, the only problem is...... if you have expectations? You better have the wallet to make it happen! There are always good ideas, but ideas start with the proper foundation. I really would start developing your game as best you can, and under as little as you can pick off. You have a..... lets see..... 4 in 80 chance that your game, if presented properly to an agency, or game and media company could very well land you a job, and your team mates a job, or could very well land you a sponsorship. I always love to use apocalypse online for this kind of example. They work hard on what they do, not only have they been interviewed by massive entertainment, but the owner, nills, is capable of getting a job in the industry as an artist, for his art work on the game. Their game was constructed in RC. Realm Crafter, which by the way is upgrading to a dx9 engine, in which if your a windows user could spell out a chance for you to engage in a surprisingly open industry of the gaming world. Online mmos. Its really up to you, how you take what others suggest, and form your own foundation, sometimes allot of this can be easy, but do not forget its never an easy pickle.
