Star ocean: Till the end of time! actually one of the fewer games that your action detemine your party in the end and it's more fun, I enjoyed every last bit of star ocean and I quitted Valkyrie profile 2 after the 3rd boss you encounter...

I liked Star Ocean: till the end of time and fully beat the game. I've never played Valkyrie Profile 2, but I'm sure it's also a good choice. I don't think you can really go wrong with either of them. Maybe just go for the one with a better deal (save money).

I would really suggest getting Grandia 2 for the PS2 (if it even exists anymore). Great story, good voice acting (voice acting in Star Ocean 3 was probably some of the worse I've ever heard), great characters that you would want to see what happens to them at the end, and an ending that actually gives you a closure, as opposed to most RPG's today. Also the fighting system is very good, kinda like a tactics RPG.

It is honestly my favorite RPG of all time.

Edit: Oh, plus the game has a very good musical score as well.

Get Persona 3: FES or Valkryie Profile 2

Valkyrie Profile is a excellent game. Beyond amazing. It had me hooked for the whole summer. The battle systems...characters, maps..all great! The game has a decent challenge. I actually suggest you buy the guide book or go on gamefqs. Thats what I did because I messed up on my first playthrough. You see, there are PLENTY of choices and hidden items and bosses. The game has tons of items, and customization so you can personalize your characters however you could like, can make certain characters more powerful but sending your party members back to their lives in the human world. A guide will help you find helpful items that will make the game a bit easier, plus it will guide you to get the best party members. You can always use your favorites but each character has it's limits. I really have to commend it on it's battle system. It has a fun comboing system that makes trying to get the best combos rewarding. The monsters can take a beating. With all 4 characters attacking, sometimes you will barely scratch a enemy. Thats why it's important to break off monsters body parts to get a chance to use unlimited attacks, and even use whats called a Soul Break, which is a insanely powerful attack! You can also chain these for more damage. It's a great battle system, and it's fun, so if you ever need to grind a bit it's not a problem.

I defeintly reccomend Valkyrie Profile 2. If your going for a darker, more dating sim/dungeon crawl mix, go for Persona 3 FES. I have yet to pick it up (I have NO money) but I've been wanting to get it for awhile.
