Default The REAL Newbies guide to GunZ

All right, so you are new to GunZ... I know that you may be a little confused on some things, but I'm going to clarify them for you. Or at least try. Lol.

Please note that this guide can be used for both igunz and ijji, it won't make a difference. Also don't be intimidated by this guide's length, it may look like a lot of info, but it really isn't all that much.

1. Controls - Go to the stickied thread "GunZ controls" at the top of the GunZ forum page.... there is no reason to repost it.

2. Downloading the game - Also stickied at the top of the page. It's listed as "Gunz Information"

Now that we got that crap outta the way......

3. Starting a new account - A) Creating a character: Design is up to you.... but when it comes to weapons either pick one with medpaks, or one with at least one automatic. The automatic will come in handy for leveling up quicker and gaining more bounty(money), but medpaks will keep you alive. Briefly.

4. Leveling up - This is an essential part of the game. Levels restrict you from using (but not buying) certain items (clothing, weapons, etc.) The level needed to use the item is listed in the shop. You level up by gaining exp (experience points). Exp is gained from killing enemies in battle, and a certain amount of exp is needed to level up. Sometimes when you kill someone a "Fantastic!" or "Unbelievable!" or "Headshot!" will appear. Quite frankly these don't do a thing, but hey, they make you feel cool....i guess.

5. First battle - I personally started with a team deathmatch in the garden level, but I recommend you start with a normal deathmatch in the mansion level.
Why? Because first off, the mansion is small and easy to navigate. Plus it has one big open area with minimal obstacles. Secondly, the deathmach mode is a simple, kill everything that moves sort of match in which (if you didn't catch it before) you have no teammates. I'll get into game types later.

6. Bounty - Okay, so you got some bounty from battles.... but what should you spend it on? If you want to buy a weapon, DON'T buy:
a)pistols - these are very ineffective. Note i said PISTOLS not REVOLVERS.
b)Grenades - there will be a grenade section of the shop..... don't buy any of them until you have some experience playing. They are very hard to use for less experienced players.
c)Maxwell rocket launchers - They suck. End of story. (the walcom rocket launchers are much more powerful than maxwell)
d)The first shotgun - it is ridiculously ineffective, and laughably inaccurate. Even for a shotgun.
e) a dagger - unless you are really that good with a dagger.... don't buy one.
f) Medpaks - they aren't worth wasting money on.... unless you are a high level.
What you SHOULD buy: If you currently have a dagger, buy a sword immediately. Everything else not listed above is okay... but I would recommend buying a set of dual revolvers or a later model shotgun as a secondary weapon.
If you want to buy clothes, don't. I wouldn't recommend investing in clothing until you can use the (Vin's i think?) Longcoat. Although I did buy the denim trousers, they look good (i guess) and provide decent protection... but I would only buy them if you have spare bounty lying around collecting dust. You may die more without clothing, but you will collect more bounty for weapons and that lovely longcoat when you are not spending it on clothes.

Jeeze... that was long....

7. Types of gameplay - you heard me say something earlier about a Team Deathmatch. I am going to explain how some of them work.
A.) Deathmatch - I'm sure you know all about this one already. Indicated by a single skull on the game select screen.
B.) Team Deathmatch - A variant of the Deathmatch in which you have teammates. Your teammate's names appear above their head in blue at all times. The enemy's names appear in red when you have your crosshairs over them. Indicated by two skulls.
C.)Gladiator - A deathmatch in which you can only use swords. Indicated by a sword and 1 gun.
D.) Team Gladiator - A team Deathmatch in which you can only use swords. Indicated by a sword and 2 guns (didn't see that one comming huh? ).

I will leave the rest up to you to discover for yourself. It's no fun if I spoil everything for you.

8. Styles - A style is a collection of moves that allow you to beat an opponent easier. Styles are hard to master and require practice, but once you get the hang of it, you will find it easier to smite your enemies to the ground in a shorter period of time, without losing as much health. There are a few types of styles such as k-styling, in which you mainly use a sword, e-styling, in which i believe you use mostly a gun, and d-styling in which you use a dagger. EDIT: there is another style called M-Style, which I think is relatively new. You also use mainly a sword in this style. All get the job done, but all are hard to master. The most popular among high levels is k-style. There is a guide on how to do it stickied at the top of the GunZ forum page. The rest you must discover for yourself.

9. Channels - (I forgot this section earlier... ) What channel you are in is important for new players. On the match selection screen there will be a button with something to the effect of "channels". There are 3 types of channels. Regular plain old channels, clan channels, and private channels. You can access all of them, but some will be more crowded than others. On the normal channels (or match channels as i believe they call them) There are different channels for certain level ranges (i.e. - lvls 1-5). You will start in an entry-level channel. You can only enter the channel if your level meets the restriction requirements. There are also 2 "free channels" in which any level player can enter and participate. I recommend staying in the level restricted channels until you get the hang of the game, but you should check out the free channels whenever you feel ready.

10. Quests - (NOTE: You can only participate in this game mode in a Quest Server.) This is a game mode I thought deserved it's own section. Quest is a mode in which you do not fight other players, but rather several computer operated characters. You win this mode by clearing each area. You advance through the areas by defeating all the NPCs (non-player characters) in that particular area. You also obtain quest items throughout the match, which can be used to reach a another level of the quest, or even fight that stage's boss. You can also sell the items, but be sure not to sell a rare item. Ask others to see if it is rare, I'm sure they would be glad to tell you. I would recommend you start in the mansion stage, but make sure you have 4 players (the maximum amount of players) before you start. You earn exp and bounty in this mode as well.

Other Tips and Information:
1. You are going to get called a noob a lot in this game. Don't let it bug you, just ignore it.
2. Don't spray. Spraying is using an automatic and firing in random directions, hoping you hit someone, and possibly even stealing someone else's kill.
3. Don't steal someone else's kill... at least deliberately. In other words, don't watch a fight, and jump in at the last second just to get the kill someone else was working for. You will be flamed, or even kicked in extreme cases. This is also abbreviated as KS.
4. Don't TK. In other words, don't "talk kill" or "type kill". This means if someone has a speech balloon over their head with dots in it, don't kill them. They are typing in the chat feature, making them defenseless. Wait until the bubble goes away and they start moving, but don't stand directly in front of them.... or they will kill you as soon as they are done. A better idea would be to forget them and move on.
5. Don't hack. I wrote a guide on how to deal with hackers on this forum. Go check it out.===> (How to deal with hackers)
6. Don't talk smack. You probably aren't that great, but talking like you are will definitely make you look like an idiot.
7. Using a rocket launcher - because a rocket launcher has very slow bullets, you need to use a move called "lead shot" in which you aim ahead of your target. You also should aim at the ground, not the person. You are more likely to hit them this way. Be careful though, as you can commit suicide if you fire too close to yourself.
8. Using grenades - these are hard to use, and ineffective if there aren't many people in the current match. What you need to do is find an area of the map with a crowd of people fighting, and throw a grenade in the middle of the crowd, or somewhere near there. You can also throw them in an area in which you cannot see a person, but know they are there. (i.e. around a corner or behind a box) DON'T throw them if someone is chasing you. You will die. Period.
9. Don't commit suicide. You lose exp and can down level if you lose too much, and nobody wants that.... at least no newbie does.
10. Don't stack. In other words, if you are playing a team gladiator or team deathmatch, don't join the team that is winning if they have more players than the other team. In fact, don't do this even if they aren't winning. And if you are already in the game, don't leave and switch teams for any reason, even if it is to even out the teams. The auto balance feature will take care of this.
11. Don't be silent. Use the chat feature, people like to talk to others, and often will talk to you. If you are silent, they will either assume you don't speak English, think you are a newbie who can't use the chat feature (By the way hit enter to open the chat feature, then type a message, and hit enter again.), or you are anti-social. And plus, nobody wants a stranger screaming at them in Portuguese or Spanish or some other language you don't speak just to get you to talk.
12. Don't enter or create a game named "noobs only" or anything along those lines. These games just attract skilled players who are looking to level up quickly.
13. If you are going to use a dagger, get close to the person and slash repeatedly, not allowing them to act. DO NOT knock them over and shoot them.... unless you want to be flamed, or simply just don't care. In other words, do this at your own reputation's risk.

NOTE: this is only a GUIDELINE. Hence the "guide" part of it. This is your game, play it how you want, this is merely advice.

And that's my Newbie guide to GunZ. Don't forget to +rep if it helped you. Now get out there and bust some heads!

Happy Hunting,
