I just don't understand why people love to bash WoW like its the so bad but in reality it has more players and is more popular then whatever game they are playing.
All of these games are on the fail list for a reason, and one of them is because they were out done by WoW

People will make arguments like "advertisement" or "big company like Blizzard". You have to understand the reason why World of Warcraft is so ****ing popular is that because they developed a devoted fanbase BEFORE they made the game. You guys cannot deny that Diablo and Warcraft were very fun games. It was their previous success that made it possible for World of Warcraft to be a success.

WoW is generic, there is nothing interesting in the game for me, especially after playing such great games as FFXI.
For me WoW offers absolutely nothing that I cannot find in free to play mmorpg or in games which I enjoy more than it. I don't know why it is so popular, but, I'd put it down to a number of reasons. 1. Advertising. Now you cannot say that advertising had nothing to do with it, people need to know about a game and companies do this by advertisement, WoW can basically be seen everywhere, it's on websites, it's on TV, hell they even got 'well known figures' to advertise it. I've seen more adverts for Wow than I have of any major xbox 360 game. 2. Previous fan base. Yes, it's been said before, look at the examples set by Halo 3. People knew about it because the previous games were pretty decent, so, the game got hyped, people started discussing it, soon most people knew about it, even if you weren't a gamer, your gaming friends promised you this game would be your new girlfriend. This is very much the same for WoW. 3. The 'I'll try something new' gamer. MMORPG gamers aren't the only people who play games, so, if you imagine you knew nothing of mmorpgs and suddenly there's this new game out and you have no idea there are free versions, or anything similar, you're going to play it because you were probably influenced by one of the above. Typically you do not see people aged 20+ in free mmorpgs, yet quite a few in p2p mmorpgs, however of course not as many as your typical teenage gamer. Ever wondered why? Ultimately you must remember one thing though. Just because the game has more players, does not make it a good game. It just makes it popular. If you like WoW, go ahead, play it, but, understand that people have different opinions, there is no such thing as a 'right' or 'wrong' opinion. Trying to argue over such things is pointless and pretty dim-witted, people won't change because you typed in caps and told them they're stupid over the internet. The best thing you can get out of this, is understanding a person's opinion. If you want a debate, don't debate games. Well, I believe I just made all reviews pointless.

Nobody can point the finger at what made WoW top dog for so long. Star Wars just signed up over 3 million people US to hyperdrive thingie for previewing next films , a game and new art / new characters. But Star War has never been able to turn fans into box sales , they get fans to buy 1,600.00 statues of Yoda , but cant turn that into sales for games. Also Lord British , had a fanbase of 250k ~ 350k , who follow him everywhere (including buying 1 month of Lineage 1 , to meet him in game and fight in a siege with him). Numbers spiked from 60k to 300k in Lineage 1 which LB came into the game. Numbers also spiked in TR when he gave in game speech for TR. But he has not been able to convert fans to sale. Matrix is another one , Sega reported pre order sales in 800k mark , but only sold 350k game disc , only 120k were converted to sales. Jake Song is the father of modern PVP titles , he has a fanbase which is in the same zone as Star Trek cast member. He shows up , fills the room. But he has never been able to convert fans to sale , he also appeared in game in Lineage 2 to give a speech and spiked sales but didnt increase in numbers. WoW fans might be a factor , it might be Ads , it might be them working with China , it might be the IQ 10 content, it might even just be a fluke. If people knew for sure they d copy it , even Blizzard isnt sure what the hell they did. Beside that being popular doesnt make you the best or even good. Look at Hitler he was popular and ruled over a nation , but he was evil. Most games are niche markets now , they appeal to certain body and have a certain fanbase. Just because its not WoW doesnt make it a bad game. Its like I prefer white cake with blue frosting over chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. |

why they cant understand that many ppl played WoW and found it boring, bland, and too much PvE centered , is beyond me. fanatism doesnt just apply to religions,or so it seems.

1. RYL: Path of the Emperor
PC - Planetwide Games - Avg. Score = 54.360% Can't say that I've even heard of this game, but considering it's ranked as the worst MMORPG of all time, not hearing about it might not be so bad. Provided by Gamespot * Dated, low-res graphics * Bland player-versus-environment content * Frequent graphical glitches. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Eheh wow these guys must be pretty intense graphic whores and whats wrong with the PvE enviroment? I mean cmon you only see like 3 or 4 mmo's that actually let you move around and attack then just click on an enemy while stuffing popcorn in your face D= |
