Unless something fundamentally shifts in tonight's final performance show, David Cook will be the next American Idol.

David Archuleta was by far the leader of the pack from the beginning of the season with his rendition of Imagine. His lead slowly slipped from week to week until David Cook overcame him in votes the week of his rendition of Billie Jean. David Cook has held the lead until May 6 when David Archuleta regained top votes for the week due to 1) strong performances, 2) relatively weak David Cook performances, and 3) by picking up much of the Brooke White support after she was voted off the previous week.

If the vote for American Idol were held today, David Cook would narrowly win over David Archuleta. However, if David Archuleta becomes the biggest beneficiary of Syesha's former supporters along with strong performances in the finale, he has a reasonable chance of overtaking David Cook and becoming the next American Idol. Because it is so close between the two David's, former Syesha voters will declare the next American Idol.

Since Syesha was voted off, David Cook has picked up most of her supporters. So unless David Cook messes up tonight, or unless David Archuleta hits it out of the park, David Cook will be the next American Idol.

What does sex have to do with a show testing somebody's singing skills against another. I see nothing there that could separate the show between the sex's and label it as a more feminine show. It's a ****ing T.V show, grow up.

1) It was a comment made with a sense of humour. Obviously it's not a sex-based thing.

2) Testing singing skills? They're testing marketability, nothing more.

Of course you are, because you're sucked in and smitten with the programme. I don't expect any different from you.

American Idol is for fakers and people who possibly have above average ability that simply cannot be bothered to let their talent do the work, in which case they shouldn't be doing it in the first place. Simple as.

The show holds zero artistic credibility, it's a popularity contest, nothing more.

I won't go so far as to deny that nobody on it could ever possess any talent on a technical level, at the very least, but as I said prior, it applies to a certain kind of person. People who have been trained to "sing well", and people who can sing reasonably and yet, don't have the patience to make it on their own steam, and need to be whored out and shaped as needed.

There's always the "rock" guy who is supposed to be rugged, the guy for the chicks. The irony is lost on him that a real "rocker" wouldn't be seen there anyway, since that is the very opposite of rock. There's the "I've overcome adversity!" guy, there's the "prodigiously talented" female etc. It's all the same.

Simon Cowell, as much of an idiotic self-parody as he is, said it perfectly. "I'm totally in this for the money, it's not about art or ability for me. People who come on our show pretending to be credible rockers or whatever, they are false, because you simply wouldn't be on our show if you were one of those.".
