There's a setting you can access easily through the menu to set it to max resolution. I've got a D-370 laying around still which is why I know. The only real difference is the resolution between yours and mine.

As far as the pictures, on max resolution I took some really nice shots of this girl I knew back in the day so take the recommendations here and see how they work out.
