Wow, Op, your ignorance is really high up there . . . you did very little research.
In fact, most anime is actually targeted to the teenage audience and up. Naruto, for example, is in fact a young teenage Tv show, it's just that the dubbing companies have started dumbing down the series and marketing it to a younger age group, like they do with most anime series. I'm betting you have yet to see a true Japanese, subtitled anime. As Sandman pointed out, there are many genres out there, some of my favorite are the ones that trifle with your mind. Tengen Toppa Gurren Laggan, for one, was an all around all audience, parody, anime which ended up being Gainax's latest success, enveloping excitement and tears all into a quick movie yet simple series. There's also animes that ask you philosophical questions on life like, "Is the one who chooses the rid the world of evil evil himself?" (Death Note) or, "Are terroists really just enemies of a country with no country backing?" (Gundam 00) --- To come in here and mock a terrific medium for excellent plot and art, how dar you. Note: My parents don't like anime either. My father constantly yells out every time I laugh to a funny scene, "Shut Up, it's not funny," but of coarse I have to correct him, "how would you know, you aren't watching it." /sigh I can't wait to move out at the end of summer.

1.) Compared to most American cartoons, anime's anatomy is better drawn and almost appear to be outlines of people in simpler form with most. Now, there are some cartoons, I admit, that DO try to make them realistic, but most of the anime either inspired this or Americans purposely draw mishapened cartoons for humor. 2.) Just like mentioned above, there are many lessons learned in anime, for instance: Full Metal Alchemist shows spoilers of how alchemy and the conditions that could be met by giving an equal amount of mass, as well as what almchemist went through to get the legendary Philosopher Stone. That helps in chemistry as well as other science classes that discuss this topic. Dot Hack//sign (my personal favorite as well as the game series) shows how hacking can infect the computer system and other things (okay, bad example) 3.) Other life lessons can be learned. I am taking Creative Writing, and we do things like discussing journal entrees and how people feel about them. Though I do not normally contribute, when I do, I find that things I learned from anime helps me better understand life, sents it "goes there." 4.) Yes, there is a lot of porn in most anime, but not in all. Like mentioned before, anime is not one same genre, but actually a variety from dealing with school to fighting superhuman girls/boys trying to save the world to detectives trying to unravel a mystery involving some deep connection that ties them into a series of conflicts to amazing science fiction shows that give you something to think about to love filled romances to sad dramas. Some of my favorite animes: Air [emotional ending about a girl bearing some kind of curse that prevents her from recieving true love (from family, friends, etc) and a man searching for a girl who is connected to a winged girl...] Full Metal Alchemist (A boy and his brother search for the Philosopher Stone after attempting to bring back their dead mother, only for the eldest brother to lose his arm and leg and the younger brother to lose his whole body completely...) Full Moon wo Sagashite (A girl with a tumor in her throat prevents her from singing, her dream, but things turn for the better, or worse, when two Shinigami appear before her and offer her a chance to fulfill her dream, before death...) Spiral (A boy deals with the overshadowing of his brother as he tries to unravel the mystery of the Blade Children, only to find himself on a path of discovery of himself, as well as a way to save these people from the Hunters...) ~Others

So what you're saying is: in FMA it also teaches kids to use magic spells and try to resurrect their mother only to lose their limbs? All your other points are valid, but not this one. (By the way: bringing up the philosophers stone in a chemistry class is one way to be laughed out of it.) |
