Alright, here's the lowdown...

Me and a neighbor have been aspiring to create an mmorpg for our whole school year so far. We've searched the web until our eyes bled looking for a suitable engine that fits our needs and wants.

I've recently come across a game engine that we are considering using.

Yes, it's a Maple Story clone...

We really want to create a game with this engine, but need more help then that is provided to us already.

We have no website, we have no experience other then basic 2d mmorpg production, and I am here to ask for help. We are scripting newbs, therefore we are going to take some visual basic classes online.

We are serious about this

My question is, if anyone is interested in creating a 2d sidescrolling game with me and my buddy.

I promise to you,

We'll try our hardest to blow every single 2d sidescrolling game out of the water (Ghost, Maple, Latale, Windslayer, Wonderking)

If you were serious you wouldn't be trying to compete with the other side scrollers.

Before you go looking for help you need to put out,Posting this "We are serious,and need help" doesn't cut it.You need to plan before you go looking to build the army of '12 Year Old game makerz'.

Well lets take a different approach to how we can let them down, without breaking them.

Unfortunately truth is, it is not this simple, to aspire to make games is one thing, but you really do not have the common grounds and resources to make them.

Now this I am sure you already know, which is the exact reason your posting here, but.... well, like the poster above said.

Your post does not cut it.

Being serious, and being excited about the ability to make a game is.... more than commonly misinterpreted. Promising anything is so shallow at this stage in thinking of game development it basically leads people like us to just say, no to even thinking about helping with your game.

None of this is to try to discourage you, but your going to need more than a post to get going.

I, and I am sure anyone else who is serious about their work will not want to just join a project with no tale, no insurances, no foundation other than a few friends who looked at a game engine and think, "wow we can make a game now lets do it".

Thats not to say certain aspects of game development is very easy to get into, but actually getting serious people to help out with a supposedly serious developer, requires.....

More to the eye, than a simple post.

You should lay out stuff like the storyline and planned features to get people intrested if you need someone to make a website or forum i can help with that. As i have two games out feel free to ask me any questions about game development.

if you're "newbies" as you put it and by the look of things don't really have much of a game planned out. Why not tag along with another 2d side scrolling project and use that enviroment to learn more about game development because no one is going to work for free for a couple of guys that have very few of the skills or resources they need to make a game.

so yeah... my advice is to join a project that's already on its feet.

Ripping from a game is one thing, but to rip the freaking thing and just paste it in the game, LAME.

It's just to show for the engine it's all changeable but yeah i doubt they know that there using it as the default so they wouldn't know to sue them.

My advice:

Join a project to get the grip of this.

or

Make a few simple games first, then get another member or two for your team and then begin to work on it.

Being excited to start a game is the way I started, of cource the games didn't work out, but it helped me work into getting experience and understanding of the Engine... So don't drop out, just work on it... Also joining groups is very helpful to undertsanding alot of basics
