I don't listen to techno, except for in games when i have no choice and/or if it sounds good.

and Trance/Techno gets you pumped and in that zone for running.
Running 8+ miles gets boring and tiring without music that can pump you up. I'm fine during a running race because of adrenaline, but practice is boring as hell.
google club 1 FM radio, they have some really good trance music on it, and it shows you wich song currently is playing
