There is only one race (for the players): human. I said "for the players", because a certain class can catch the monsters, and there're many races for the monsters...
At the beginning of the game, you don't have a "job". You'll have to decide what you what to do and do a quest to get the job. I don't know the english names of those jobs, but could translate the japanese names >_< In general, there are three groups: battling jobs (soldier, saladin, archer, mage, cleric, normadic and a job that can "seal" the monsters..), gathering jobs (hunter, miner and lumberjack) and producing jobs (pharmacist, cook, smith for weapons, smith for armor and a job that can identify unknown item). I think their abilities are clear..
What's unique about Concerto Gate? I think, CG is unique, because all players depend on each other.. you could also buy medicin from NPC, but from a pharmacist, who produce it himself, would be much cheaper, for example. And for many quest, it's almost impossible to do it alone.
