Agree rightly.
Those figures are often only used to try promote the game, and since companies wont declare the average number of players they just rely on those figures.
Entropia Universe has a player count on the site, 694265 about, but not that many people stay and play on average with EU, so same goes for other games.
If I could program I could go work for them. This post/job is probaly legit, could be a bot though advertising jobs for jagex, unless guthrix has made any other real posts.
