Post Castaway- Game In Development

Hey I am Towcar, I am working on a new game called Stowaway(Until I find better name)...

So Your a Castaway(Castaway is better name lol) from this big plane crash...
This would be easier in a storyline groupedge
Storyline:
You and a bunch of people on a plane are on your way to a free two weeks night stay at a hotel and casino in insertcityname. So everyone is flyin on the plane when there is some wierd turbulence, The pilot skims water barely, everyone has to jump out... You go out first, you jump out and your head hits a suitcase on your way out... You go unconcious only remember the plane wing missing and that you never finished your free peanuts...

GameMenus:
You have one friend Log on and make a sever where he is the Tribal Cheif... he can invite players into his Island but max of 8 can be invited, and there is a complicated way you get rid of people to add new people.
Then your friend make account and join your server...

GamePlay:
There is a crashed plane which is where 7 unconcoius bodies lay, every player that the cheif adds becomes one of those bodies as if they woke up...

So you go around suriviving on the island making huts, food source, pool, Study Technology and Travel on the island looking for new land and discovering the secrets of the Island...

GameSystem
To build things you need high enough stats, need to figure them out, and gather the right supplies ex: Stone, wood, Vines

Food
There is many sources, some are temporary, the forever sources are much harder to obtain and take much more skill...

Hunger Energy Bars
Well i thing I am adding but I might omit some things about is More stats the are effected by time...
So they will upgrade based on skills and tasks you complete
There will be a energy stat, hunger stat, thirst stat, fun/mood stat... which time bring down and must be brought up, the fun/mood stat will change your work effectivness if your in a good mood you'll work more, if you grumpy then work will be sloppy, these can be brought up by enjoying things you have built that are fun

More on Stats
The other type of Stat will be the stat which doesn't change other then working hard makes it go up...
Examples:
Construction - Building Houses
Knowledge - Discovering things
Fishing - Obtaining Fish Food source
Harvest - Obtaining Crops food Sources
Healing -Healing players - mediecin-Herbs-bandades made
Leadership - Tribal Leaders everytime they get 100 leadership points everyone gets a point(Everydaily log on gets 1)
Resourfulness- Finding resources ex: Rocks, vines... Higher level finds better things


Inside game Spoiler Hint lol
Water is first, easiest, unlimited source you find, but it slighly bad for you if you get it from the ocean
Once you figure out the river water from the island is better you can build a device to obtain water from it...( I learned this from lost lol )

This is the one screen shot, Without grass or anything, just the plane wreck which could use some work and the island... so this is sorta what you will see when you begin, but I gotta figure how to make figuring stuff out easier...

hahah yah, I've have alot of people over there that I didn't want knowing I was working on a new RC so I though I'ld keep it from them by posting over here, but I'm liking this forum here...

Its pretty non generic.

But *everyone* would want to be the tribal cheif. You should burden the cheifs with extra things to do or something.

Haha The triabl cheif isn't much more special but I think I could give him some responisiblities.. haha, but I was thinking that so I can earn some cash of the finished game You have to pay 5 bucks to be able to start a server, so one friend can pay 5 bucks, open servers whenever he wants for his friends... that way he'll invite lots of people to play my game...

My next screeny will be with all the trees and plants put in

few crits: The name has no relevance to what you described, I think you need to look up the definition of a stowaway.

surely sea water should be damaging/have a negative effect not just be "slightly bad" drinking sea water in real life makes you wretch/vomit.

I think the payment system is a bad idea because it encourages people to try and sneak into other peoples servers instead of paying for there own, no one is going to want to be the one out of 8 that has to pay so it's kind of killing itself there.

bit to early to judge on graphics yet but one thing imediatly noticable is the plain is way to big, it takes up like 1/10 of the island and is bigger than some of the mountains and the layout of the island is just a bit unthaught out, you should cinsider the path a river would take, were beachs would logicaly be etc. rivers on soft mud like that would have soft sloping banks not straight drop offs. The map's just filled of little unlogical things that all add up to make it look wrong.

Plus the game will have to meet an audience appropriate level, because I can guarantee you not everyone makes money from their game. That's like me saying, I am going to make a game and charge players to play, if it comes out and it sucks, well no ones going to pay, and no ones going to play.

It is a little easier to gain support when the game is in later development and is eye catching worthy.

dragging this off into a bit of a tangent, how many RC games can you think of that are atleast somwhat succesfull?

I meen the only one I can think of is apoc-online (which I believe mustang's a part of) but even that appears to be dwindeling. Almost all the hype it had has gone, the servers are open in some form of beta and there's only ever really 2 people at a time on and I handed in some samples of my work a while ago offering to do some work for free for them and they never even got back to me... I meen it take 5 minutes to look at somones work and say yes or no. There was other people offering to help aswell, they were displaying amazing work and the apoc team didn't even bother getting back to them. That seems a little shabby to me...

but apoc online moan aside can you think of any others then could you enlighten me?

There were 2 actual game companies that used RC, one is Swedish, and the other, the owner died of almost 1 or 2 weeks ago.

Then there have been on and off games in development that have, more for a batter word of culled, but have been in operation for a long time and continue to push out media.

Eagle softworx is one of those.

I can not say RC has allot of good games, but well.

That is not to say it isn't possible to make one with realm crafter, but allot of people lack resources.

yeah, i'm not blaming RC but it seems the teams with the best chance of making a good game stick to a more adaptable engine like ogre.

I think RC's downfall is that it makes it too easy, I think the amazingness in alot of things comes from not being able to do the same yourself but RC has gone and made its contents easily accesible to everyone. This is both its best triumph and biggest downfall in my point of view. It makes it perfect for people who "dabble" and people new to the industry but this kills off all of its creditability and pretty much rules it out for any serious developments.
