I played Ryzom before it went down, a lot. It was always my favorite game. I TRIED to inform people about it, but I think the general-mmo playing population just wasn't experinced enough to recognize the leet-ness of this game. They were still in the cookie-cutter stage of wow-every oriental game-every room based game, that stage what ever you want to call it. And just couldn't recognize the potential this game had because of its sandbox-style. That coupled with the steep learning curve = few new players. People at the time were only accepting games that fed everything to them. And many still do...but I think there are more now that can realize that this causes failure in games; and steep learning curve having games are almost always more rich, fullfilled, and rewarding.

Yeah Ryzom was/is awesome. Now if only they'd make it f2p with cash shop.. Damn, it'd be popular.

after seeing this trailer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4_ziCSs-WE]
I really want to play this game. I'd even pay for it, after testing it first.
I think making this game f2p would really destroy it's good community. maybe lowering it's fee down to like 5$/month would be a good deal?
I'm sure that they can still run the server from that money and it won't be that much either.
Btw, about that video and some other ones of Ryzom.......what's with these big caravans and those big, big mounts(?).....looks like the trading-system of SRO, IMO. Would be cool to have something similar in that game, because I really liked that one feature of SRO.
Ah and again:
what does this game offer what other games don't? :P

It actually has more of a territory war feel to it. You compete to control outposts stationed in different areas of the game. Battles for outposts are usually pretty large in scale (usually at least 5 people per team; many times over 15) for any given outpost at any given time. Gaurding the outposts and trying to take them over is a big part of the pvp in the game. The outposts are benefical because, of course, they give monetary gain to those that control it. (guild, faction, etc.)
