Just bought a new Acer desktop last week here is the specs:

Acer Aspire M1200
AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processor 4200+
3GB DDR2
ATI Radeon 2100

Well thats a handy lil comp there, should run almost any free fps. Try these.

SuddenAttack Website is http://suddenattack.redbanana.jp/ ,it is a free FPS, which I find more fun then Counter Strike, and they have a friggin awsome server so even people in USA can play without a dink of lag, registration is pretty straightforward too.
Warrock Website is www.warrock.net, though this game can be pretty addicting it is a pretty greedy game.
Crossfire Website is http://cf.vtc.vn/tintuc/5364/index.htm, this games a biatch to register too and last I checked it's real laggy, but it will be coming out in USA and UK soon by G4Box.
Urban Terror Website is www.urbanterror.net, it's a pretty fun FPS, simple, runs easy on almost any comp, but looks fine, very well made.

Sorry I can't remember any more atm, but please enjoy and feel free to try them all. (I only listed FPS' that do not require a foreign ID. So keep it legal lol)

You can try America's Army. It requires a lot of tactics. I'm playing it with my friend and we always get owned!

CS 1.6 is probably better than any free fps, but I guess if you're bored you can try America's Army. Or Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I personally found that game to be too much of a solo run and gun game, with no sense of community. If you want a slower version you can go for the mod True Combat Elite.
