Hmm, Well you can try the original "Unreal" game, since someone already mentioned the sequal to it, worth a look. It gives you some Lore behind the Unreal tournament series of games, yes it has some lore to it, It does not go into great detail though, but if you don't care about some of the lore it may have then it has lengthy adventure to go through, and maybe the expansion to it if your able to find it.

I'm surprised no one said Deus Ex yet.

Also, Star Wars: Dark Forces/Jedi knight series has shooter elements in it.
