Ok so starting this summer I get to do some travelling for Onrpg. Specifically to conventions on gaming. Problem is I need a laptop to do it, and since I am freelance it looks like I am on my own.
So...ideally I would love to be put in contact with someone at a computer company and I'd give their product a spin with the latest games and such. Failing that I want something that has a 17 inch monitor, is pretty cheap, new, and is not made by Dell or HP (because I cannot get local repair service on my products where I live). Suggestions are appreciated, but if you can put me in contact with someone at a company that you know just PM it. Yes I am aware I am cheap :P |

That's not going to get you a very good laptop if you want 17". Although there are quite a few nice 15.4" out there for that price. Ebay will probably be your best shot although it will be a risk.

Yea, I don't need a super high-end rig that can run Crysis on full at 120 fps. I just want a 17" that can run all free MMOs easily and will likely be able to run Diablo 3. Thinking somewhere around a 2ghz cpu, 2-3gb ram and around 256-512mb vid card. Problem with a 15 inch laptop is that the primary function of the laptop is for me to do some serious typing and reading (and recording of interviews) when at conventions. 15 inches will require a much lower resolution for decent sized text which is unacceptable to me.
This is why I am hoping someone on the forums knows someone that can set me up ![]() A little gaming as hotel rooms are boring, especially since it means being away from my wife. 99% for work though.

Gaming notebooks don't go for cheap, specially it being a notebook and having parts a normal notebook wouldn't have.
This is the cheapest one I can find that you want. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/X...7500_Notebook/ |

Well, I don't know about D3... And 2-3GB of RAM with 17in on that budget is rare.
Here is the cheapest laptop that is 17in screen, and atleast 2GB RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834101150 And it's a shitty gateway(which are cheap computers, if you know what I mean). But the GPU will not be able to handle D3, and may have a little difficulty on some of the F2P games. Basically, you're asking for a miracle. You're either going to have to lower your specs, dedicate more money to it, or get a cheaply built computer that will end up breaking shortly after the warranty ends.(and the chances of finding a cheaply built system that meets both your specs and price is going to be extremely hard also) Now, if you get an inside connection, maybe... But over-all I don't put too much hope in that happening. But good luck to you. Hope you find something that will suit your needs.

You may also want to consider where the laptop is placed (on your lap? on a table?). HP laptops overheat really easily, and they can probably cook an egg.
BUT! There is a special HP 4th of July discount: http://www.shopping.hp.com/notebooks?aoid=35252 I'm buying a pen tablet laptop, so I can't input on what you should buy. |
