Hi. I need a programmer (or two) who's willing to commit some time and effort for free, helping to code a free-to-play browser-based MUD using PHP and MYSQL. Basically, it's totally text-based roleplaying game with rooms set out in a series of grids, where each room is a sort of chat that needs to be refreshed to update, like a click-to-submit thing.
We plan to have stats, mobs and items and such, but these are more "props" and stat-based limits for the roleplay than about stat levelling, though we'd like folk to be able to combine kill-drops for crafting, sell to shops and player-traders, etc, for a realistic economy. So, the point of the game is to develop a character's storyline through interaction with others within that of the gameworld. Like a forum RP, only a game you can move arund in and do stuff. We'd really like to make a kind of cross between the telnet MUDs and the text-only Windows-browser-based ones, as the browser games I am familiar with don't have neat things like crafting commands, mostly only the most basic stuff like "push", "pull", "swim", "search", etc. There is a small but loyal following for these sort of games. We have players waiting for a better alternative to what's out there (very few games like the one we have in mind, and most there now are sheerly crap), and a highly creative and committed team of room-writers, admin, etc. Our current programmer is not really very experienced, and is often absent. We just need some people to help out in actually make the rooms and monsters and items and shops and things. (and to be patient with us game-making noobs, lol). Here's extra info, from the template: Team name: Eldritch Cabal Project name: Working Title only, "Cabalgame" Compensation: Atm, none. If we find a programmer who is reliable and willing to commit to something that could very well go on for years, we'll give a share of any income generated. Technology: PHP. MYSQL. Talent needed: Just a programmer good at those things, or two if we can find 'em. I aim for programmers NOT to be player-admin, as many are in the other games of its type, and it never seems to work out well in these sort of places. We'd prefer folks to do what they're best at, and be able to focus on that. The rest of us are experienced roleplayers and game admin, and used to managing players and plots, etc. We'll only need around 5-700 rooms to start. Team structure: Dem: programmer Kat & Tene: world design, world plot, world & player admin. Maddie & Jaid: Room-writers, player admin. Charles: Accounting, legals, etc. Website: As me for it by email, if you'd lke a look. It's very, very rudimentary at this stage, though. *cringe* Contacts: sallishep@hotmail.com I really don't know what else to add, at this point. Happy to provide any other info needed. - T Last edited by Tenebrae; 07-05-2008 at 04:16 PM. Reason: added info |
