Note to Game Developers:
Putting cowboy hats on characters in your game does NOT make the game unique. Still looks like a bad GoW rip. (Hope Rockstar doesn't make that mistake with Red Dead Revolver). |

At least if we're talking single-player FPS game. Multiplayer would be much tougher to decide, with games like Quake, Team Fortress 2, Halo 3, and many other great ones. However Gears of War 2 has an amazing storyline, great mechanics, and is probably the best single-player FPS game I can think of currently. Also, I hate when people bring up originality. Who gives a shit if the game is original, what does that have to do with it being good/bad? I could make a game where you are a birdfeeder and must fight of squirrels by supplying birds with seeds in order to get them to join your army, and the final boss would be you and your army of birds (you would be the feeder who is the commander) attempt to take down the groundhog infestation by going into the hole it has burrowed. DAMN ORIGINAL, MUST BE GOOD. Or you can have a game like Fable/Elder Scrolls; Not very original, but amazing games nontheless. Being original doesn't mean shit, and most of the time being original just means your game is going to be bad, because hardly ever do people make a game concept correctly the first time. We're not talking sequels here like Diablo 1/2 or Fable 1/2, we're talking concepts being copied. There were tons of terrible RPG games, and then Elder Scrolls was made and finally did the concept correctly. What's wrong with copying a concept as long as you improve, not cut-back? Nothing, that's what. |
