This is one of the many reasons why I hate Valve. They may make good games, but horrid programs. Having to use a program that requires an internet connection to even play single player games is such a stupid idea.

Or you switch Steam to Offline mode...
I don't really like Steam (it's ****ing expensive considering your not getting a disc).
