Is anyone having problems trying to play Modern Warfare 2 on extra texture settings?

I have an AMD Athlon x2 5200+

an 8800gt OC 512 vram

and 2 gigs of 800 mhz RAM

I am getting very bad stuttering with fps whenever I switch from high textures to extra.

I have seen people run the game fine with hardware similar to mine so I am a bit confused.
