you don't need the Spur, you just need to make sure you don't go after the guy that falls down in the Labrynth, the guy that gives you a jetpack, cause if you do that, an item you need by the core isn't there. You get a much better jetpack anyway.

You can pretty much beat his first form with whatever weapon, his second with the blade, and the third/forth with the blade. The spur just makes it a lot easier :P
