Alright, yes, I know that I have been looked at as the antagonist many, many times in this forum. But with the way things are going now, I'm going to propose this idea:

Why not give the community a little bit of power? As in, managing our own stickies/threads and making any improvements that we think would be beneficial. Propose ideas to get rid of any nuisances or threats that come to us, basically organize the place and give us a say in some of the stuff that goes in this forum so that idiots like me don't disregard every rule that I don't like. Stuff like "No discussion or advertisement of 'unofficial' servers, hacking, etc." being pinned onto the list of stickies might help cut down all the annoying server ads that come to us frequently. We could decide on our own rules for threads that we think would be manageable and wouldn't have any major effect on the functionality of the forum.

Basically, give us a say in some of the things that we want. Of course moderator discretion would be present, but at least this way we aren't living under rules hat we don't like (No offense, but this is pretty much the state of the forum right now <_<).

While this is admirable, the whole thing with forums is that they are not a democracy, but a dictatorship. This isn't going to end well, I just know it.

There's going to be a lot of stupid proposals that will be hard to sift through, and all the while you'll hear the constant din of how that idea is brilliance when in reality it really isn't.

I'd disagree. I would say the government is more of a oligarchy, because more than one person(or a group, such as mods) rule.
Back to chrone's idea, I doubt rules will stop all the shit in the forum, like spamming and advertisements. Although I would like to see members of this forum have more power, especially veterans.

I agree 100% with you... us the "community" should have a right to say what rules are complete BS and whether or not we put them in ... forums are meant to discuss things... that last topic had no discussing freedom.

We understand about the "no porn,pserver, etc." rules as you would probally get a lawsuit quicker than the road runner and that pretty damn fast.

But cmon... "No posting unless you had a screenshot" was utter shit.

Problem is, this forum is no different than the other forums. If the other forums can run smoothly without the community in control, there is no reason why ours can't. In order to give power to the community, we'd have the run the idea through the admins and they aren't going to like it at all. So, the idea of having a democracy is out. Forums were never meant to be a democracy, so it never would have worked anyway.

My idea is that we get a new moderator who's active, listens to the community, and asks for user opinions when making a decision. All we need is a moderator who listens to the crowd. Of course, Olaph and Icy could both be that moderator, but only if they were a bit more active and actually post about things other than a giant hammer. I don't care how awesome a moderator has been before. If they aren't active and visit about once a week, I don't consider them to be a good moderator.

We just have to run this through with the admins.

It is a brilliant idea in a perfect world however people would make sarcastic ideas and such. Right now , if olaph wants to ban people for talking he needs to rethink being part of a forum. Forums are made for discusion now a screen shot thread would definaly be mainly for DISSCUSION of screenshots with ocasion off topic coments that would quickly get back on topic.

did it ever occur to you that we are here and simply just clean up all the crap without anyone noticing?

the amount of threads/posts/spam i clean up is astounding so you have no real room to comment.

the mods did not write the rules,we cannot change the rules, just enforce them, any changes requested or suggested have to go through an admin hence your idea is flawed.

forums aren't meant to be run as a democracy, you have members who contribute all the content and discussions, and you have staff who make sure the forum is running smoothly and as clean as possible.

this is the way forums are and its never going to change.

in regards to the veteran posters getting powers..are you out of your mind?

do you know how many people spam useless crap just to reach this so called "status" you can say post count doesn't matter but heroshi just proved you all wrong, he judged someone by his post count and hence disregarded his point.

THAT is what is wrong with this forum.

You might be here all the time Olaph, but if you don't post, then people are going to assume you're not. I'd much rather you post once in a while to let everyone know that you're still here. The same thing goes with Icey. It's more comforting to know that you're still here as opposed to wondering when you'll get back. I want a moderator I can have a discussion with on a daily basis on the forums, not one who only appears when things are really screwed up and disappear again like they're Batman.
