I actually prefer it's gritty, more realistic artwork, compared to the big eyed stereotypical style (especially with some of the cg backgrounds eh ugly) But then again I'm kind of biased towards older anime, the newer more modern stuff isn't what draws me in. Akira gets kind of gorey, I actually thought more or less the Elfen Lied vectors were sort of a spin off of the powers in Akira. Very similar destructive force where they just kind of make the surrounding people explode lol (Though realistically one is being sliced apart and one is really exploding from within)

Akira was alright. I just don't like the look of old 80's style anime. It's just unappealing to me for some reason. The newer style just seems more clean and nicer to look at I guess.

Bokusatsu Tenshi no Dokoru-chan is a pretty bloody anime.
You probably aren't looking for an anime like this one, since you're probably looking for more of an action anime, but this is really one of the bloodier anime's I've ever seen. It's an incredibly odd combination of bloody deaths, cute girls, and comedy. Basically, there's this angel with a giant, spiked, metal club, who falls in love with this human guy. Wackiness ensues that usually involves her killing the guy in some brutal fashion with the club, only to revive him with her angel powers, so it can happen again.
