I would say it's common knowledge that borders make a sig more professional and finished looking.

Oh and I haven't commented on your sig yet because always, once you touch a staff's ego, they like to take out the warn stick all early... so I refrained from it, but because you think your sig is better than "alot of sigs [you] have [been] seeing here lately". I'll crit it.
I only bring out my Banhammer and Staff of +2 Warning when I need to.

If you're going try to quote me, you might as well get it right. I didn't say it was better, I said I preferred it.

And pointing out typos is rather lame.

It's terrible. I mean, if you're going to try to make it look oldschool, make it nice oldschool, like add some layer effects to make those pixels 3D like. Then add drop shadows of different heights to make it look like the pixels are in different places on a 3D map.
Why would I want to make 3d looking pixels when it's supposed to be 2d?

Also, you absolutely cannot leave text simple like that in a simple sig. The point of a simple sig is to flow to a certain object or to highlight something. Your sig has neither good flow or anything to highlight.
There was no way I could think of to make the text have "flow," so I went with simple. Who says there's nothing to highlight? It has three focus points: the text, the three lines of the colours, and the blocks.

Quote:
Everything is just simple and that just looks amateurish. I'd suggest picking a different style because you've got a lot to learn for the concept of simple. That or follow my advice and fix the flow...
The most naive statement. So you think that if someone tries a new style and doesn't do well, they should never try that again?

And I took the .psd and quickly threw in some of the advice in the previous posts. Behold the crappiness!

Yo I liked it!
I like both of them actually.
The grey one reminds me of NES cause the color scheme is similar, and the white one reminds me of SNES cause it's like, more advanced lol!
It's similar to the NES one but more like, fancy and stuff.

Sadly, it doesn't have a focal, it isn't pleasing to the eye. I dont scream in excitement, I don't gasp in wonder either. Its just, bland. I can't give you any pointers, but hope you do better next time.

You couldn't be more wrong. Borders don't mean anything; they're just optional and are supposed to adorn the sig, rather than act as a stamp proving it's finished and professional. Judging a sig solely on it's lack of border is ignorant and foolish.

I won't lie: I don't like your sig. The colors clash, and they hurt my eyes. Such a concept as simplicity could be better executed than that.

I agree, if someone was judging a sig on the border alone, they wouldn't have any business rating art. I'm simply saying, I've never seen a sig that looks better without a border than with one.

Everyone keeps saying they hate the colours, but no one has yet offered a preferable colour scheme.

I can't really come up with anything right now, but try this: grab any layer and go to its blending options. Go to gradient overlay and click on the current gradient shown there to change it. Once the gradient editor opens, on the above and to the right of the presets you'll see a small arrow; click on it, and select any of the preset gradients there (color harmonies, metals, pastels, noise sampels, etc.). Then see which one fits your tastes, and use those same colors on your sig.

Now I might be wrong but my following my advice and you following my advice had two different results. You just bullshitted to make it look like i had no idea what i was talking about. When in reality, you just have no idea what you're doing. Now if you really want me to go back and explain everything I said again while negating every response you gave to me, I can, but I think my result speaks for itself in comparison to both of your attempts. It's simple, yet focal and flows. Simple color scheme. Simple effect and wasn't overdone.

However I would like to negate one thing you said. You said your sig had three focal points. The problem with that is that most people can only look at one place. The idea of a focal point is that at the first time a person sees the sig, their eye is immediately drawn to that. If you have three well then your eyes will just bounce around and then well, there's not really a focus point, there's focus points which only add to confusion and clutter in sigs.

Warned for the bolded part. True, I didn't spend much time on the modified one, because I had no real desire to change it. However, I still find mine preferable, while yours is absolutely nothing like I would want.

If someone could only see one thing out of the entire sig, I would think they had ADHD.

Now I think we can just let all this go, and get on with our lives. SOTW #2 voting will start in under 3 hours.
