Weird title, huh?

Well I had an interesting day today. This morning after football practice, most of the team was sitting outside of our school, waiting for our rides to get there. Some guys were sitting on a bench behind me, and they started throwing ice at all of us that were sitting on a picnic table. Well, I was getting annoyed at all of the freshmen that were throwing ice, so I picked up a small rock, about the size of a grape, and tossed it back at them. Well, incidentally, a freshmen was walking in my line of fire, and got thumped on the head by the rock. He was pretty ticked off, and WAY overreacted, picked up a rock about the size of my fist and walked up to were I was sitting. Someone was talking to me, so I turned around and looked at them. Suddenly they yelled look out, as the guy who got hit came up behind me, and struck me on the back of the head with the rock. Now I dunno about you, but that shit hurt. It put a 3 cm. cut on the back of my head, and I blacked out.

Well, I woke up instantly, got up and felt the back of my head. Blood covered my hand, and I ran back in the building. I didn't have a concussion, even though he hit me REALLY hard. I ran in, coach helped me clean up the cut, bandaged it. My Mom came and picked me up, took me to the doctor. Blah blah blah, I got 5 stitches.

So my mom calls the coach, to talk to him. She told him I couldn't wear a helmet for a week and a half. He says he has discussed it with the other coaches, and feels that the necessary course of action is this. He is going to talk to everyone who threw ice, threw rocks, etc, and that the whole team would run. He isn't going to call the parents of the guy who assaulted me, nor is he going to kick him off of the team. He is going to slap him on the hand, make him run, and end it there.

Do you feel that is fair? I sure as hell don't. I have to run because I got assaulted because someone overreacted? And the fag still gets to be on the team?

I don't know. Tell me what I need to do, what you think of this situation.

Considering the old team motto:

"There is no 'I' in 'team'."

I played lacrosse in High School, and stuff similar to this would happen all the time; making signs on the bus to tape on the back window with plenty of profane things to say or phone numbers of freshman to tossing Gatorade bottles out the windows going about 70-80 MPH on the trip back home. Did we run? Yes. All the time. It's discipline, and it sounds like your going to get a hard dose of it.

You said most of the team through ice, you even said you threw a rock, which automatically is a no-no, especially since I can tell from your post, your not a freshman either. You're guilty just as everyone else was throwing ice, plus the kid that hit you because you all wanted to act like little kids. You had to learn it the hard way by playing copycat instead of being a bigger person and asking them to stop by throwing something back, which unfortunately hit someone other than your intended target.

I think the penalty is justified. One rotten apple; or in this case, some rotten apples spoiled the bunch. Now because of what you and your peers did, people not involved have to run, too. Sounds like no one stepped up to take charge there and act responsible, which is probably why your coach is making you run in the first place.

You need to run, just like those freshman, and along all the innocent people on your team, so enjoy it with them.

You forget the term toss. It was a toss, to get their attention more than anything. The guy who hit me committed criminal assault, he hit me and blacked me out with a rock the size of a grapefruit. I don't care about running, I care about the fact that he is getting the same punishment as those who were playing around.

Isn't "tossing" and "throwing" and object still doing the same thing? You use your arm to fling an object. It's not rocket science! You tossed something, they threw something; both are at fault. You wanted to act stupid and now you're being punished for it, despite what happened to you. You got your just desserts; enjoy it and move along.

The coach isn't going to do anything yet until he hears out everyone. What you said probably won't buy over anyone, because if I was standing there as a third-party, it probably looked like you threw a rock at the kid and he hit you back with a bigger one. If anything, the kid will probably say he did it in self defense because you provoked it.

Your coach is just avoiding the situation to cause any divided disputes in your team.
