I think you're overreacting. Besides the first picture, I really don't see too much resemblance with Final Fantasy VII characters.
2nd) OK, the smile is similar, but what if the rest of his face turns out to be completely different? 3rd) Those two have the similar colors as Cloud and Zack but the rest of their designs look nothing alike. 4th) Just having gray hair makes you a copy of another character? 5th) A maybe similar hair style from a blurry picture really is not strong evidence 6th) Besides the fact that they're both male, have mustaches and beards, they look nothing alike, I think you're just overreacting with that pic. Anyway, so far the numbered games have never interconnected. The only things they'd have in common are the elements that are found in all FF games, as in Cid, chocobos, airships, etc.

As for sephiroth; Given the structure of his lower face, and the general design of characters, I'm willing to bet that he looks like Sephiroth even if this game that's place in a different universe. That to me, reeks of poor character design. I know Sephiroth, and grey haired pretty boys, are popular in general, but they should really start doing something new with the villains. It's getting old. And I don't think it's likely that his upper-face will be in complete conflict with his lower face... Again you're missing the point with the post... Of course each image by itself holds no likelyhood at all. It's by the fact that so many similarities appeared in a single trailer that made me react. And as for the reeves lookalike? wtf... Have you seen other pics of reeves, including the original art pictures? Just hair and beard? They share the same facial structure, brow/eye shape, and even haircut/colour on several of them. And as for interconnection; again you're missing the point. Final Fantasies are ultimately interconnected by the fact that they are all final fantasies. Each new title is an attempt at overgoing and improving the older ones. It goes without saying. As I said earlier, if you really think the previous characters looks so much alike, why don't you line up the casts of previous FF games. Unless the characters act as tributes(such as vivi) or cameleons such as cloud in FF tactics, then you won't find many strong resemblances. I'm not saying this proves anything. If anything, it might be the character designers intention to make these characters resemble previous once in a way of paying homage to earlier FF games. This seems as the most reasonable explonation in my opinion. But I won't accept "it's all by chance". If that truly is the case, then I've pretty much lost all hope for FF games until they switch out the team working on it. It's just bad design imo. At least the FF13 seems to have done something exciting, by making the heroin that has an altogether different feel from previous heroes. |
