We are supposed to be on a shortage of IPs, and I believe my Dad mentioned something about us running out in the near future, but I honestly don't think that would be a problem.
Besides, scientists are working to try and create a new internet; with less TUBES! EDIT: And for the people who're saying they'd protest, it wouldn't do you ANY good. If this does happen, it's the companies that will have to shut down because they're not making enough money to support their massive servers, hence they shutdown. It's not like they just give up and leave.

When the internet was originally created, I guess you could say, there were a multitude of IPs created with it for specifically designed regions. Now, since we're running out, countries are hoarding them for their own use. Not to mention Youtube. They use so much ****ing bandwidth it's not even funny, so they need more servers and more IP connections to run. In fact, I think Youtube is number 1 on the list of top IP users, or whatever they call that list... EDIT: Also, we can't just create more IPs as far as I'm aware.

I don't thin kthe internet can die, unless somone find a way to like stop everyone from connecting to it in the first place.
Just think about when people tried shutting piratebay down, or the anon war on scientology. The fact is that "everyone" uses the internet. The power of the internet is the masses, and the people out there who actually know their way around the software and hardware of computer technology(aka hackers, nerds etc etc). If people try going facist on the internet, then they'll have to deal with all the people who'll go rampage on them if they try. That's a lot of people. And amongst those people there are people who know what they're doing who do not belong to software and broadband companies. As I see it, the internet seems to have become like a living entity of itself - I don't think it can be controlled. Maybe they can "kill" it by completely shutting it down, but as long as there is something like the internet, I believe it's impossible, or close, to control it properly. Damn, I would like to formulate this better, but I've had a tiny tiny bit to drink tonight so all my focus goes into actually writing this without major spelling mistakes. Please excuse me if this is lacking.

The only way the free internet can die, is if a government body manages to establish complete control over the current internet, and then make it illegal to create or use substitutes. However, for a goverment body to do this they must first make meassures to keep watch of and keep control of internet access. However, the moment such meassures are taken, the people with the knowledge and skills will immidately launch countermeassures, like with the piratebay. I don't think it's likely that it will ever succeed really... |

And it's true, if this did happen, you could own your own server. You can right now, and with this fiasco, it'd be even easier and probably even more common for people to do it.
