Why do people in the USA refer to USA as 'America'. I've always been curious about this. I know it's a big country but still. Anyone knows?

Cause it's the given name.

Shortening. Instead of saying the "United States of America" they just say "America". It could cause problems, though.

Like killswitch is short for killswitch engage. im sure theres a band called killswitch out there but they dont rly care. I think
