Your lungs being a part of your body require blood. The more you fill up and release oxygen/co2, the more you work your lungs. Therefore requiring more blood. When done correctly at a decent amount of time, obvioulsy your heart rate won't be at rest rate... Even if you are in tip top shape as what will happen with any amount of work you put your body through. There are more muscles in your body than those you physically move suprisingly...

In my band, we do half a mile before we even start marching. Then, being in pit, we practice unloading for about two hours, instruments aren't like. Standing at attention and holding a twenty-pound instrument is a nice workout. Works most of the muscles in your body. Plus, I do a lot more than band, I get out and do young youthful things, like run around and play at parks.
you should drink water instead of coffee, if you drink the required amount of water a day you will feel fine enough to not want to drink coffee to stay awake. i can notice BIG changes in my behavior from drinking 64oz+ water a day and not drinking any. i feel alot better/less cranky/ and more aware..

i wont say anything about the exercise thing anymore, except maybe im old school, but i think the only good exercise is running or sports with lots of running and those get you in shape. lifting doesn't really get you in shape cardiovascular wise... and with that i wont say anymore.

do you not know what this word cardiovascular i keep saying means?

i clearly know theres more muscles than you move. I simply think that you use your skeletal muscles more than your cardiovascular muscles(heart) in band..
