1/2 soc normal quality weapons are worthless, unless you were to put violet gems in them and use them from weapon prof training. Other than that, 2 soc weapons are a common drop.

Now I will list all ways to get sockets:

Upgrading in TC or Market. (Market has a much much lower chance of making a socket then TC, and yes, it IS possible to get a socket in market, don't tell me otherwise. I've been playing the game since 2004)
You can get a socket from a Moonbox.
You can get a socket drop from a boss such as Syren in lab4
You can use 12 DBs in market to make a socket in any item besides Gourd/Garment.

Mobs outside of Lab don't drop any non-weapon sockets at all, ever.
