ah, agent is one of the harder professions. may be difficult to play as a first character. I'll roll a new character to help ya out.
The map truly isn't much of a help. Basically, just read what the NPC's tell you and follow their directions. Here's a guide on the island if you need it:

really, you can just get to the mainland at any time by finding your way to the teleport place, but doing all the beginner island quests will be very helpful =]
