Yeah, you'd do well to read it. One of Galileo's point is that the scientific method is extremely important to understanding religion & scripture and it's one of the reasons why we have it.

I'm sure. However, I can't say I'm very interested. I'm familiar with scripture(and theology in general) of all the 5 major religions, and frankly, no matter what Galileo thought(one should always consider the gap in knowledge between todays scientists and those of old times), I think there is enough evidence around to show that religious dogma and much of scientific theories are mutually exclusive - not only by the claims they make, but by the very methodology that drives them.

Even if everything stated in a single religion was true, it would still be unscientific to indulge in it, simply because religion moves by faith, not by evidence. Science is not about asserting how reality works, but by demonstrating it.

I think you'd do well to read it and see Galileo's argument of how the scientific method does not interfere, he thinks, with the practice and examination of scripture. A summary doesn't quite do it justice.

I've read a summary, but I haven't read the entire thing I'm afraid. Anything in particular you were wondering about?

Oh, sorry I didn't reply until now. I've been absent for quite some time due to currently attending a university in Japan, so I haven't had time to spend surfing the web due to massive amounts of homework =P Glad someone noticed though! I'll probably be more active from now on seeing as my workload has diminished somewhat.
