Woman in the Dunes is tied as my #1 movie of all time with Eros + Massacre. The book is great as well but it's the kind of story that is perfect to translate on the screen into a work of art.

I love how someone described Ikiru as Fight Club for old people somewhere, lol. A lot of Yasujiro Ozu's films are in the same vein (he's easily my favorite director). And if you're feeling a bit adventurous there's the mighty Eureka or Maborosi.
