I/IV - Yeah...I think if someone is genuinely kind, everyone would get pissed off at their purity and bullies would most likely beat them up. It's better to say, "Sarcasm!" and laugh it off. Ah! Of course, they can use the word "Honestly" or "Genuinely" before their compliment, like "These are my genuine feelings" or "I honestly want to thank you."
Hm...between strangers is a difficult scenerio to imagine. You could say "Thank you so much" or "You are too kind, sir/ma'am" to adults, but it's harder with teens and such. I think with teens, you can't be formal, so a "Thanks!" or...yeah, that's all I have. xD
I think you happiness and bubbly nature in the early morning had a reverse effect on your roommates, who were probably still sleepy and moody.

What if they're cool earrings...with one missing? :O I see a lot of guys wearing necklaces. Makes me sad when my own necklaces rust and I can't wear them.
