I just got the game and I'm already struggling. I'm at the part where I have to close my first oblivion gate. I manage to get to the tower but I keep getting owned. Is there something I should do first? I'm only level 1. I tried going back to a town, selling my eq and buying heavy armor, and then joining the Fighters Guild (I'm a Knight//Crusader).

Should I just keep trying? Or did I skip something....<_<

I would reccomend getting to at least level 5 before attempting the first gate. That gate is actually supposed to be harder than the others for a reason...you'll find out why later on. Or you can also try lowering the difficulty a bit if you're new to the Elder Scrolls series. As for equipment, try raiding some of the Ayleid Ruins. You can find some nice weapons and armour there. Hmmmm...what else to suggest? I guess try doing some of the Fighter's Guild missions. Also try to find people that need your help, sometimes they'll give you a pretty good weapon or a good piece of armour. That's all I can tell you for now.

Where/how should I level? What major skills determine my level, athelteism? Do I just keep jumping forever <_<...

That one place with the Fighters Guild (I forget the citys name) had a shop that you could sell//bye stuff. I sold all the things I got from bandits and then I picked up a heavy Armor, heavy Shield and this Iron Helmet thing. I helped that lady kill rats from her basement etc etc.

I guess I'll try to pick up some levels before I go back to that oblivion gate, but how? >.>;

Try to do more of the quests or start raiding old ruins. About the leveling thing, your major skills (the ones you chose as your class skills) are the ones that determine how you level. Each time you get 10 skill level ups you could sleep and raise your overall level. I would suggest doing more of the Fighters Guild quests for a while (there are more Fighter's Guilds in different cities but the people who assign you missions will tell you where they are) and start raiding all the caves, Ayleid Ruins, bandit camps, and Castle Ruins you see. Or you can always go find some trainers to increase your major skills, but they are pretty costly. If you want to do it the trainer way give me your major skills and I'll tell you where to find the people that can train you.

Offtopic: Is your sig of the anime Witchhunter Robin? I love that show but I can't find any of the DVDs. :(

((Siggys from Bleach. You can watch Witch Hunter Robin at YTV or youtube))

Can I travel to the ruins through the map option? That's how I get to most places. If I can't what do ruins look like on the map?

You can't fast travel to the ruins until you find them. You'll either have to travel there the old fashioned way or use the console command. To use the console command press the tilda (~) button and all you should be able to type. To get all the map locations so you can fast travel to them type: togglemapmarkers. I wouldn't reccomend it though because it gives you the marker to EVERY place in the game and can result in confusion. If you want to know what icons you should be looking for I'll get some pictures. If I manage to get to it tonight I'll post them, if not I'll post them tommorow.

((Thanks, and what is Bleach like? I guess we should be talking about this through PMs...but oh well.))

Meh fast way to lvl in my opinion is by joining the arena and kicking ass XD. U'll get loads of money andu'll lvl quickly. Also did u choose a custom character i.e Mage, Warrior. Or did u make a character yourself and choose the major talents? If u chose a custom character that might be the problem:99% of the time the custom characters will have skills which u don't like. Hope I helped =p.

P.S. Many ppl confuse athletism with acrobatics-To increase acrobatics u jump or fall from high places(preferably not dying in the process XD) to increase athletism u run around and swim(swimming is better)

Arenas huh? Where do I find those and will I get my ass kicked everytime I fight in one? And do I fight people or wolves...wolves are cooler <_<.

((Bleach is about the main characted (Ichigo) who has a special talent that ca see ghosts. He helps the rest in peace etc etc. After a while he finds someone called a 'Shinigami (god of death)'. Shinigamis help destroy monsters that normal people can't see, but Ichigo can see. Latedada (skips spoilers) Ichigo will soon have to be forced to become a Shinigami to help save his families life. After that the Shinigami (Rukia) gets captured etc etc and the plot takes form))

U find an arena, and from what I know the only arena in the main city (sorry forgot the name XD) just go south of the market place and u'll be in the arena. U have to go inside and talk to a blck guy in a heavy armor. U only fight humans until u become the Grand Champion. If u do get u're ass kicked I'll be confused cause I'm new and I got easy money. (theguys only did about 10 damage to me every match XD) At the start u only get like 50 gold every match but if u keep fighting your rank will increase and u'll get a pwning 300 gold per match!!!11!!!! My advice is to become grand champion and then go to the Oblivion Gate. U should pwn then XD. (once u become grand champion u get an armor of value which increases lods of stats by 10!!!)

I personally don't like the way the armor looks. :P But it is pretty good for a beginner. What difficulty are you on though witchunter? If you're about halfway or higher, you're not going to be able to complete the arena at level one. I would suggest lowering the difficulty for the duration of the arena or not even going to the arena until a higher level. By the way, the arena is located in the Imperial City. It's the middle right marker.

I still haven't found time to get those icons yet. I'll try after I get back from Driver's Ed. :P

Edit: Also before you even start the arena, talk to the current Grand Champion. He'll ask you to do him a favor (quest) and it REALLY helps when you fight him. If you don't do the quest then you have to fight him. If you complete the quest and he figures out he's part vampire then he just sits there and and let's you beat the crap out of him in the arena.

Lol I did that quest...REALLY sad...do the things that he teaches u (the attack techniques) actually help? anyways it's real annoying to go THAT far and then u don't get that good exp XD Anyways Witch hunter, sorry I forgot u were a knight. Cause if u were a mage the arena would be a breeze =). If u want to lvl fast I got another advice...but it's kind of dangerous XD. Buy lods of healing pots and go on a rampage XD Kill any1 u see in the city and when the guards come for u resist the arrest, keep killing until no more guards come for u. Go sleep, for some reason the tavern owner ain't afraid of u. U'll get a visit when u wake up...

P.S. Don't actually do what I said XD. It's just something fun to do if u saved previously...I like to kill innocent ppl....

The "attack techniques" he teaches you are actually a permanent enchantment that he puts on you. I think it fortifies blunt and blade 3 points? Not completely sure. Also if you want some good stealth and combat experience do as Judgement said. BUT DON'T KILL A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE! Just kill one unimportant person (possibly a beggar) and then sleep. When you wake up you will be visited by a man in a black robe that talks to you about the Dark Brotherhood. He gives you the chance to join their ranks and take contracts to kill people. These quests are slightly easier and it's possible to complete all of them at lower levels. The whole plot to the Dark Brotherhood quests is actually pretty interesting. You can always start a new game as well.

I remade my character into a mage guy. Now a can summon skeletons, and I've decided to explore a lot more before heading to my first Oblivion gate. I'll stop by the arena and gain some stuff and then I'll continue with the story.

Skellies FTW >_>...

WOOT!!!MAGE POWER!!! I'll give u an advice on being a mage since I have the same character, buy the zombie invocation spell from the marketplace. It REALLY helps(a zombie can take out one of those annoying mobs in Oblivion)

P.S.Deaths Legion u don't like going on rampages? and killing the innocent?

Of course I do! I just wasn't reccomending it to him. :P But, as for you being a mage, congrats. Mages are actually pretty powerful at higher levels. (they may be a little annoying to get used to though) I have two current characters at the moment. One is a mage that does close and ranged combat. The other is a mage that has some combat experience, but mostly stays back and throws spells around. My advice would be to create a powerful area spell for when you're going into Oblivion. Groups of monsters can be pretty annoying. I would suggest getting at least level 30 in destruction and creating a 15 damage shock spell in 10-15 feet of target. May not sound strong, but at level one you can own the arena with it. If you don't have access to the Arcane University yet, do the reccomendation quests. It'll really help in the end. Or, if you've already downloaded some mods and are willing to download more, I would suggest the Sanctum Sanctorum mod. It may be a little unbalancing, but you don't have to take the things in the house and there are spellmaking and enchanting things. If you're a conjurer then I would suggest getting the Zombie Invocation spell as Judgement said. Also get some other summon spells just in case. If you're in need of money raid some caves and ruins and sell everything you can get your hands on.

While we're on the topic of Oblivion, can anyone tell me where to find some mines that have a lot of Silver or Gold veins in them? Need them for mining and crafting. (a mod I recently downloaded)

I'm done ranting now. If you want links to the mods then just ask.

I finally found a ruin. But I keep stuff keeps getting to heavy so I have to make a trip back to town. I'm thinking of atleast reaching level 5 before opening my frist oblivion gate >_>...

That's good, but since you're a mage I reccomend doing some of the mage guild quests. It doesn't matter when you do them, just make it sometime before or after the Kvatch Oblivion Gate. It'll help a lot, believe me. Once you get access to the Arcane University you'll be able to make your own spells, enchant your own items and get your own staff! I reccomend adventuring around Skingrad. There are a lot of mines and bandit caves around there. I've found most of the Ayleid Ruins and Castle Ruins around the Imperial City. Well, I'm done for now. :P
