I am thinking about buying the game, but i am not sure what i want to be yet, i am thinking either mage or Priest, and really edging toward's priest...but is Priest any good? what benefits does it have?

im not relly sure but i tink priests r the guys that heal every second of their life in a party.

Priests are very uncommonly played, and healers are always needed, so you will always be able to find a party. I would suggest that you spec shadow talent tree as it is a very good solo choice, just make sure you don't use up your mana doing DPS while in instances.
Priests are a fun class, and they REALLY piss people off in PvP. Plus Physic Scream is your best friend.

Shadow priests can/will melt faces in PvP.

Holy priests are jst or healing.

Priests die easy at the beginning, they level slow unless your shadow. Shadow priests are fun : ) My alt is a shadow priest

Being a preist you wont lvl fast until you get to good instances AKA Dungeons. Everygroup wants a healer which would be preist,shaman,druid. so when you get in those instances you'll start gaining the xp.

Just make a shadow priest and STAY a shadow priest.
ive been a SP till level 60 then i became holy+disc because thats what my guild wanted:)
After i got full tier2 i stopped playing for a while because i got bored bigtime.
They never wanted me to get any +dmg items(atleast not in my guild).
Shadow priest is FARKING imba, and kewl.
I personally love to do physic scream, vamperic embrance and mind flay:) u killl people without losing any hp:)

PvP = Better of making a warlock.
PvE = There isnt a better healer.

ther good for parties, cuz priests can heal a ton of health and they can respawn ppl wen they die. i no ther atks r reely good also so yeah all n all they good

In PVE a Holy/Discipline Priest Is Amazing, But can only outheal a druid over a long period of time.. Holy/Disc have AMAZING crit %s and are ALMOST as good in PVP as Shadow! AND! You can heal as a shadow priest as long as you dont go to shadow form, My guild is pretty good, so we have priests that are shadow and druids that are feral lol,

if your guild is endgame then i would get most of your priests to go holy. Holy spec can make you heal higher than original heals.

of corse priest are really good healer.. but if you dont have a pali yet id recommend useing a pali instead... then make a pri:hmm:

I have a holy/disc priest and most of the time, i'm asked to join Instances and raids even though i don't ask in my realm. I myself enjoy playing as a priest(well... i always have played the ultimate healer in any game) but everyone's opinion vary. You may want to try it yourself and see if you like it. Holy priests can be useful in BGs as well due to faster casting times and all. I remember saving our lives in WSG, 2-0 horde/alliance. Someone took the third flag and reached 64 HP before i came down from the roof and shielded, renewed, fear and then flash healed him. Then we ended up winning, alliance must've been pissed after that. Ah, good times.

I'm a 41 Paladin and I can heal a whole lot better than any Priest who's level 40-43, as of right now, Paladins kinda seem like better healers.

holy pallys are up there with priests in regards to healing
another option is to go druid since they can heal just as well as a holy priest
and if your feral you can tank and dps too

but shadow priests would be one of the most powerful spell casters ingame and gotta love melting faces

Number one, pallys are better healers then preists if the priest arent full holy spec.

Number two, priests were the strongest pvp class in the game till they nerfed them, now they have a big challenge vs warlocks, but they still stand at the top.

For raiding, Paladins and Druid healers last much longer than priest healers. Contrary to popular belief, healing priests don't spec full holy. They use the hybrid disc/holy spec to get Divine Spirit because Circle of Healing is useless along with the other skills of Lolnova and Lolwell. Additionally, if you're planning on pvp, Paladins are primary healers in arena since you'll be under constant fire, and cloth doesn't get you far. While priests stack 250+ resilience (This is basically survivability in pvp), have mediocre armor and healing, Paladins can easily get literally ten times the armor of the average priest, get as much as or more +healing, and still have more resilience. Otherwise, holy priests are just for 5-man instances/dungeons.

As mainly a shadow priest, you will have some fun in pvp and such, but you'll never "fit in", because of the large aggro-range of Mind Control (Basic crowd control), and there are barely any undead mobs that I have encountered (other than Karazhan), that Shackle Undead can be used on. Even speccing Shadow Affinity (Lowering Shadow threat by 24% when 3 talent points are added), you will easily pull aggro from anyone or anything. If you stick your dots (damage over time spells) on, and the tank hasn't established confident aggro (I usually wait for 2-4 Sunder Armors), then you'll be dead very quick, especially in Heroic instances where you'll be 1 or 2-hit killed at level 70. Unless you really want to try out a priest for 5-man instances and somewhat stable pvp, I suggest Mage or Warlock for PvP dps (damage per second), Paladin for PvE and PvP healing.

Note: Priests in general are very disappointed and angry as a whole due to recent nerfs. Not only have priests been nerfed this one time, there has not been a buff to priests since last June where Lolwell was buffed to heal a little bit more. This is most unfortunate because no priest in their right mind actually uses lightwell in normal situations.

I agree with the post above. I dropped my priest and made a pally, the armor makes the difference. But if you still want one i would go disc.

Currently I have a 3 muskateers like group with a group of friends, I'm the warrior meat sheild (2h-fury), one other is a frost mage, and another is a shadow priest. Even though we need to nab two other people to do instances, our priest does a really nice job. In most occasions, we don't need a main healer, so we just have him go into shadow form and throw some VE's and SW:P's. Also mind control is a godsend if you know how to control aggro. A shadow priest may not be as great of a healer as a healing specced paladin, Druid or Shaman, but they are a nice addition to any party seeing as they can dish out some DPS and take away quite a bit of damage. I would like to see priest healing buffed though, and their PvP skills nerfed a bit.

Update: Priest Nerf.
Doubled cooldown on Shadow Word Death, 5% less damage.
