View Full Version : Trickster(Eng) - Downloading, installing and patching

Im going to clear some things up about the process because I keep reading lots of wrong stuff about it...

Important: Even after you do everything you WONT still be able to play it whatsoever! Wait 'till 24th July(and I still won't guarantee it, but I won't discuss why right now).
Also, login doesn't still work on Trickster's website.

About the rest of it:

1- Downloading the game

Go to TricksterOnline website, click the "Download" tab and then "Game download" text, a new page loads, now click "Trickster Full Version Download". This will be an installer about ~390MB named "FullPakTrickster.exe".

2- Installing

After you download it, run "FullPakTrickster.exe" and choose where you want the game to be installed.
(This will take 2 phases, first it decompresses the game to a temporary folder on C: [C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ntreev
], and then it copies it's contents to your chosen directory. This will result on taking a maximum of ~3.9GB while installing! When everything finishes your game directory will have about 1.92GB, and so will the temp folder...[major fault])

3- Patching

After successful installation there will be a new icon on your desktop called "Trickster Online", this is NOT an executable! It's just an internet shortcut to Trickster's website!
To patch it, you have to run "Splash.exe" located at your chosen installation directory. This will immediately trigger the patching to take place.
(!)The Patch DOES take longer than just downloading the game! I estimate it to be about 450MB~500MB! So it will take you at least about 1/3 longer than the time you took to download the installer.

When the patch ends, the application simply quits. Run "Splash.exe" again and it should say "Client is lastest version." (yes, it's written lastest, not latest ;P)

4- Test drive :P

After running "Splash.exe", click the "Start" button. This will launch a bit of the game but you won't be able to play it! The only thing you'll see is an image and hear a background music. You can't click anything.

So, here it is! Keep it a healthy discussion.

I downloaded, installed, and patched... (took along time)

Then I checked to see how big the game was, and the game's taking up 1.91 gigs!!!

And this is a sprite game!!!:D

That means this game is HUGE(allot of worlds and such).

Now I'm even more exited about this game!

BTW- it was a smart move for G&G to release the download a few day before the game starts.(I remember when Maplestory went from beta to full, the download was stuffed for a week after release! )

Should I wait to download this or not? It seems to be quiet the bother to download and patch this..

The fact it decompresses onto the windows drive first is driving me mad. Any tech savvy person knows that you should put windows on its own partition, I done this and gave it 2gb extra room for stuff like temp files e.t.c of course this is not enough for tricksters stupid tempoary files.

So far I moved the common files directory by changing its location in registry, but it still sticks over 1.9gb into the temp folder, i tried changing location of temp folder in registry, but trickster installer seems to have it hardcoded to extract it to the windows partitions temp folder.

Only option I have left is to use Junctions to to make the temp files go to another partition, but this only works if the folder is empty when setting up, and at moment It is pretty much impossible to get it to empty -.-

Anyone have any ideas on how I can solve this problem..?

I'm getting this same problem. I really wanted to try this game, but the installer is a piece of shit.

I'm getting this same problem. I really wanted to try this game, but the installer is a piece of shit.

I finally got it working here is how

I had to go into the registry and change where windows puts Common files and its temporary files to partition that had over 3gb space.

To change where common files and temp files are stored go to

RUN > type regedit press ok

First Key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment

Change the temp directorys there to a partition that has over 3 GB

Second Key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

Change CommomFilesDir

to a partition with a couple of gb spare

Then reset your pc

Install
Now install trickster to a drive with over 3.4gb free. (if this is same drive you put your new temp files you will probably need 6-7gb)

Might be a good idea to remember or save the original values and put them back to normal after installing.

Hope this helps some people.

Wow, that was a fast response lol. Thanks :D I have one quick question though: When you're modifying the keys, how to you change to the directories to just say D drive. It says "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp" but I don't see a disk drive anywhere :P

Ok, thanks. For the last step, theres no Commonfiles directory in my windows current version folder. Do you know where else it might be? I'm running on Windows XP Pro.

EDIT: Lol nevermind I found it. Thanks again, Reser :D

EDIT: I got the install to work.

My opinion exactly.

This and Trickster's login problems make me wonder A LOT about further problems it might have.
It is RIDICULOUS that the patch actually taking longer than just downloading the game for instance, the game hasn't even started ffs... why the hell didn't they include it already on the 1st download...

I'm trying to figure out if the temporary copy really is temporary or if it'll be needed somehow later. I don't recommend people deleting it already, wait until the game starts and then simply test it by renaming the temporary folder's name. I'm afraid it might be needed for the next patch...

This might be just a start for the next issues to come :(

What the fark? D: Seriously? About the whole decompressing process? 3 GB, and it doesn't clear it after it has been installed? Idiocy truly.

Now, the patching, I have been at it for at least 2 hours. It hasn't even reached 1/3 of it. I'm using a 512K DSL connection, and its taking forever, I can't even think what it will be like for people on Dial-up.

I don't think it's 450 - 500 Mb, it's more than that. GOOD LORD. That's one huge patch size for a game.

Once your done patching it's 1.91 gigs...

I meant the patch size. It's huge for a game that is only of 312 Mb. It's funny how its bigger than the game itself. :/

Yeah, they should realy just do a all-in-one downoad, but watcha gonna do...:p

It's like if they have been using the same installer from the very beggining, and the patch itself is the REAL game. Kinda funny how they didn't integrate the patch files into the main file; even though you would have a bigger file size, it would be easier to handle.

I was half way through the patch, when my internet d/ced for some reason. Is it true that it will continue from where it left off? I hope so... I don't want to wait another 4 hours for it to finish, or however long it takes. It takes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long. If only it supported download accelerators =/ lol

I have no idea what most of you guys are talking about with this regestry stuff. But I don't really care, since I have it downloaded and all, and I still have about 8/9 gigs of space.

But what I do know is that there seems to be a new patch up, and it looks like it's pretty fucking big too.
