View Full Version : Does death have any other loss except to your total exp?

I heard on Sleepywood, could have been a rumor, but I heard that when you die, the max HP you gain for the next level will be decreased. This is the topic to end it all.
Was it proven true or was it a lie?

Its a lie, im not sure if it was ever proven tho, The real question was why did someone think it did in the first place?

I think you lose some mesos and I know luck has something to do with the amount of xp lost.
Balross
05-17-2006, 09:36 PM
You dont lose mesos directly as a result of dieing, but the pots and recharges/arrows (On sins or bowmen) used to regain your exp lost by dieing is an indirect meso loss.
And yes, luk does decrease the amount of exp lost when dieing, as my sin loses roughly around 3-4% right now and my bowman loses 10 or so.

I don't think that's true. WHy would dieing affect your next lvl Hp increase amount, i don't get it

Yah well that hp loss thing sure is a big rumour, someone really needs to confirm if it is true or not, like trying it out.
Zadam
05-17-2006, 09:52 PM
Its totally false. It just doesn't make sence. I don't think anyone needs to confirm it false. If anything someone needs to prove it to be TRUE, otherwise I think theres no reason to believe it.

Alright, thanks guys, I didn't think it was true but hey, you never know.

Mages - 5%
Warrior - 10%
Bowman - 10%
Thief - 5%
That's IT. That's the amount of % you lose when you die. Nothing else. Rumors about these sorts of things are just rumors.

Following up on Random's post. How much do you lose when you die by a boss monster? Sometimes I lose exp and sometimes I don't, it's kinda wierd.

I know from a friend that if you die in the Free market you always lose only 1%, and i think when i died to Crimson Balrog i only lost 1% too, so maybe special monsters and certain areas affect your exp loss differently?

True.
Then again, you lose full exp when you die from monsters not specified in those areas, even boss monsters.
Example : Jr. Balrog in Sanctuary, MushMom, and Zombie MushMom, not available in Global ATM.

When you die you usually lose a random % of exp, I've died and lost 5-1% on my Spearman, And I've died and lost atleast 8-10% on my mages on times. As for HP when you level the amount added to your max HP and MP is random.

It cant be random, how can it be random if warriors and mages have skills that increase the amount they get each level, its either a base amount the get each level or some equation that factors that in. Either way, its not random.

I dunno then that's what I thought.
I remember reading a FAQ saying stuff like "Why does this Swordsman have more HP than me?" It answered saying that it the HP per level is random so that there will be people who might have more or might have less hp than you. But I doubt a monster killing you will influence you getting more or less hp than another person. Maybe they increase the number higher? Like example the first skill increases it by 20-30 then the next is 30-50 and the next is 40-60 and on and on.

If I remember correctly, if you die in town, you only lose 1%. Other than that, it's based on the amount of luck you have. THe higher the luck, the less you lose. I'm not sure if there's a cap on the amount of exp you lose, but I don't think any high level thieves are going to test it out.
As for MP/HP gain per level, it's not fixed, but I don't think it's totally random either. It depends on your stats and skills, so I think you gain more each level, although the change is not significant.

Umm... It IS random. Having a skill which increases the amount doesn't in any way prove that its not random. Each class has a base random range it gets for HP and MP. For example Warriors may be something like 20-30 HP and 5-10 MP each time you level, while Mages may be 5-10 HP and 20-30 MP (btw these arent the real figures, I'm just saying its probably something like the figures I've given). The skill which increases your HP or MP per level up simply adds a fixed amount to these random figures. Whats the problem with that?

hm...thiso is really confuseing...but about the dieing thing...im sure that if you die in a town, you lose 1%...the same if you die in a ship.....
and about the HP thing...thats REALLY weird.....O.o

Thats sorta what I meant Zadam, Im thinking he meant random like 1-100 or something, not a smaller base range that wouldnt seem to decrease with dieing.

The mouseover tooltip for luck in the stats screen reads
"Also, the higher it is, the less exp a character loses by dying"
and seeing as i always lose exactly 10% when dying i have no reason to doubt it (4luk)

When I die, on my sin, I always lose 5%. Not on a boss monster though. SO how can it be random for me O.o. I think it depends on classes.

yea....and doesn't luck have to do with it? becaue if you have high luck...you lose less EXP...right?

i dont think its true and if it is how would u prove it?
Random69

Okay look at it this way.
Would a beginner who doesn't care if he/she dies barely get any HP/MP increase for the next level? It would be horrible. Wizet wouldn't make it so you would get less HP/MP for the next level.
I've seen people with the same amount of HP/MP than me; same level, equips, and so on.
Maybe it IS random but every class/level gets a SPECIFIC amount of HP/MP increase. Maybe it ranges differently but you always end up with the same amount of HP and MP.
But then this contradicts with the fact that it's random.
That means it is a SET amount of HP and MP you get EACH level and EACH class.
Why does a Warrior have more HP than other classes? Improving Max HP Increase
Why does a Magician have more MP than other classes? Improving Max MP Increase
Why else? Look at it in that way.
Or how about this: [Both same classes]
Character 1 is level 10 with 400 HP (Estimate)
Character 2 is level 9 with 350 HP
When character 2 levels up to 10, he/she will have EXACTLY 400 HP.
Any other questions/comments?

This is incorrect. When character 2 levels up, he/she will get a random amount of HP, and so there is no guarantee they will have exactly 400.

I know this because...
1) I've made identical characters which ended up with different amounts of HP and MP (not a HUGE variation mind you).
2) Comparing to other warriors of the same level there are variations in HP/MP levels.
3) I've seen it discussed here and on sw.net.
4) When I level up I don't get the same increase in HP and MP every time... It varies.

Well why would Wizet base your HP/MP gain on whether you die or not. What if someone killed you with Summoning bags while you were AFK. Or you died trying to kill a boss.
Wait wait.
What levels/classes were these contrasting. Each Class gets a different amount of HP/MP for the Job Advancement.

Yes, the amount of times you die does not effect your HP gain next level.
Now, the amount of HP/MP someone gaines every level is random to an extent. A warrior gains an average of 64~HP every level with max HP increase. However, it can range from 60-70~ or so. By the way, these are ALMOST the exact figures. Oh, and we get like 4-6MP per level too.

i kno that wen ur about lvl 50+ thieves and mages will have enough luk to lose only 5% and warriors and bowman will forever lose 10% wen they die unless they;re stupid and put points into luk....
yea lol pride....i hate dying so much its hurt me so much cuz thats about 1hr of my life wasted in that 10%....
