A quite unexpected decision made by Vivendi Universal, F.E.A.R Multiplayer is free forever. Renamed to F.E.A.R Combat, players will be able to play all maps and weapons, and be able to play with owners of the game.

Well, at least its burnout time is longer then most other free FPSs.

good news i played fear and it was a great game, the multiplayer wasn't at the same level of the singleplayer but now with it being free it gets better

Its and item that needs to be picked up so even if you do kill him you need to get the item from his dead body. This doesnt come without catches though as when you pick up the item you pop up as an arrow on everyones HUD.(So EVERYONE knows where you are...) There are also slomo Team deathmatches and Slomo CTF.<---Team who activates slomo wins pretty much.

i think he means like something that some player picks up some powerup and his shots do like double the damage or something and the player that kills him/her then gets that powerup

they had a mode like this in Gunz called Berserk where one person glowed blue and all his shots did double the damage and everytime he killed someone he would heal and then when he got killed... well ya know the rest

Anyone else here can download the multiplayer demo or single player demo for that matter and see how well it runs. FEAR is an awesome mp game, I'm very glad Sierra did this. America's Army and FEAR mp are two completely different game styles and both cater to two very different user bases. And saying America's Army is the best free FPS is kinda stretching things don't you think? There are other free fps's around.

And ET as in Enemy Territory has been out for years. Quake Wars is not out yet, and won't be out until later this year or early next year. And will NOT be free, where as ET currently is free. And better than America's Army :p

I have to say that this game has fast-paced action packed intense multiplayer. Whenever I started the demo I continued playing mp till I had to stop due to physical limitations (this is not the type of game one plays before going to bed, if you did you'd be wondering who installed that stroboscope that you can't seem to locate). I never got this kind of an adrenaline rush while playing an fps since tribes 2.

My favorite mode was slow-mo team deathmatch. In this mode it's 1 team vs another and there is 1 slow-mo item on the map. When 1 player picks it up, it starts charging and needs about 1-2 minutes to become fully charged. But the player that picks it up is also shown on the hud/radar if the enemies so they know where to look for him.
Basically the slow-mo guy runs around and tries to stay alive while being covered by his team while the other team throws everything they have at the slow-mo guy to kill him before it's charged. Then, just as you and your teammates fall back to the last dead-end chamber, you hear the relieving sound of the slow-mo item being fully charged. At this point you throw a grenade through the door towards the enemies, activate slow-motion, rush forward wielding your metal spike launching gun nailing one enemy after the other to the walls. You can even use melee attacks, yes melee ! So just finish off those last 2 slowed enemies by thanking them with a nice kick to the head.

The melee attacks are the best I've seen in an fps. It's a seperate button that one would set to mouse3 for example. You can use the melee attack with every weapon and can combine it with other movement to do special melee attacks. For example a regular melee attack would just hit with the side of the gun. If you would stand still, then jump+melee attack your char will perform a roundhouse kick. You can run, jump and melee to perform a flying kick. If you prefer the ground you can instead run, crouch and melee to do a sliding kick (this is the most efficient if under fire). The most spectacular is run, jump, crouch and melee which also allows you to minimise falling damage.
Don't think this melee attack is a novelty feature, it's a 1hit kill that's accompanied by beautiful 'thud' sounds that make you pity your victim. When turning a corner and being faced with an enemy it's often better to just slidekick than attempt to use your machine gun. Melee attack is in certain conditions superior to the normal guns.

Now imagine all of the above with state of the art graphics, better than HL2, including superb lighting effects and walls that can have their surface shot off. Add detailed bump-mapped player models that have realistic rag-doll physics. Equip them with some over the top jackhammer shotgun, railgun that turns enemies into skeletons or grenades with insane motion-blurred shockwaves causing shellshock and you're in for a lot of eye candy.

I'd compare this game to a quick-twitch shooter like quake3. For experienced fps players it's not hard to get in to. The hard part if any is learning to also use melee, slowmo and grenades and having enough buttons close to your fingers to be able to quickly access all functions.

So yeah, when it's released I'll be slowmo slidekicking half the enemy team while they wonder what's happening :p

I usually buy fps games for their multiplayer content and barely ever touch the single player modes...single player campaigns in most fps games just feel dull and uninspired. So fear multiplayer is basically equivalent to the full game for me.

This isn't a "cheap" release though. Sierra and Vivendi have way, way, way more money and contacts to distribute this than K2 Networks does for Warrock. I promise you, Fileplanet, Fileshack, VGPro, 3DGamers, Gamespot, you name it, it'll be on any and all of them.

As for putting up a server, I think you will all be happy to know there are roughly 250+ servers up at any given time for FEAR MP. Finding a dedicated server won't be a problem, and some are based in the UK/Europe as well.

Just try to keep in mind, if you don't have a system that can run this, don't even bother downloading. This isn't like Dragongem or Ragnarok Online folks. This is a current (dare I say, next-gen almost) game here. The engine is very advanced and if you don't have the horsepower to run it, you won't be happy. Plus, if I remember correctly you MUST have a video card that supports Shader 2.0 minimum to even play it. I'll check on that though.

Imo it's not a generic fps. The slow-mo is well implemented and not just a last minute throw in. It's well balanced.
The melee moves are spectacular too, flying kick etc. Superb graphics. I'm not going to repeat my entire first post I made in this thread that high-lighted fear's good points.
It's understandable that atm with all new players the multiplayer is a bit less intense but once everyone starts to learn when to use medkits and figures out how to mix in melee attacks and grenades in their regular gun playstyle it'll be insane fun.

Considering this is 'free' it'd be a pity to not even try it.

For ppl having download troubles or not wanting to spend 1,8GB of traffic : You can get the fear dvd from a friend and use the cdkey from fear combat website and you'll be able to play with your friend. You only need the 1.07 full patch which is 290MB and can be downloaded from yahoo easily.

You don't need any tutorial for FEAR really. You set a key for the slomo activation and on servers that run slomo whatever, you hit the key when the gauge at the bottom of the screen fills up. Then you are in slomo till it runs out, and then it fills up again, then you hit the key again. Etc. Oh and you have to carry the slomo "device" to use slomo. Other people are trying to get the device and use it themselves, so it's a constant shooting gallery.

For the melee moves, you simply duck+secondary fire key or jump+secondary fire key etc. It takes practice but it isn't hard.

I have been trying to download this since noon and everytime i use the FilePlanet DL Manager my computer crashes. Either cause I open up MS or because i have internet explorer open. Does this happen to anyone else? This is my 3rd try to download it today. And yeah my DL goes about 700Kb per second.

fileplanet is officialy the best place to download. i tried from gamespot and the download would not go past 41mb. fileplanet had me wait 25 minutes until it the download would start download, but when the download started it did not take long to complete. I don't know how long because i fell asleep for 2 hours.

I just played for a bit and I gotta say its pretty good only downside for me so far is TKing, its way to easy.

anyone know of the requirements? and which server is fastest to d/l? i got 26 hours with sierrea and file planet took to long to connect and gamespot never connected with my d/l accelerator.

boot up yer bitttorrent clients to download it, you won't get it for a looong time otherwise. If bittorrent is slow for yas just leave it overnight.

the game is great.. it has awsome sound. it is also cool that when you are shooting the enviroment really is affected. such as if you throw a grenade and kill a guy this happens: the walls shoot out rock and and you can see were the rock came off the wall(becase of the impressions in the wall), there is blood on the wall everywhere, also the smoke affect looks awsome after the grenade has gone off, and objects will move because of the blast, such as a coke can launching by your head. the game keeps you on your toes becase around the corner there could be an enemy running in your direction. Another cool thing is the melle attacks, instead of only hitting with your gun, you can jump and to a round house or crouch and dowing a sliding kick. The graphics are great, but i can only run on high medium which looks great(but i am planing to upgrade soon), so right now i am running a ati radeion 9800 pro, amd 3500+, 1 gig of ram, and as i said befor i am running smoothly. so that is just a little overview of the FEAR COMBAT.

Don't find a newbie server, go to a DM game so that if you make mistakes then no one will care because you are on your own. that is what i played all day today, and now i am getting in like 3rd.

Been playing the game for a bit, well behind GW:F and WoW. Its very enjoyable and breathes new life into the multiplayer, since retail it was kinda on the small side. Its packed right now, and devouring the fresh meat has been loads of fun.

You can put as much random crap as you want in the register info. It worked for my 5 keys.

Hey, I think I know the problem. On step 2 put you already own full version of FEAR and on the next question put "Not Appliacible, I already own FEAR." Either that worked for me after 2 failed attempts or use pefect grammar and real info on step 1.

Your computer is pretty much able to handle FEAR; however your video card is onboard, I don't know if it can support it.

The game runs very fast.

you don't need to pay to download from fileplanet, just make a free basic account, login and you will be able to download for free from the public servers (you have to wait inline like 20-30 mins and then you're download will start)

just use bittorent...it take only few hours

As I said, the game is kinda like the source engine except with more destructible enviroments. I recommmend it if you have a good computer with a fast internet connection, cause I used Download Accelerator Plus and it took me about 2-3 days to download it at an average speed of like 30-35kb/s...

Plus the sites kept disconnecting me and I had to reconnect or 'resume' the download a few times. Also quite a pisser...

Plus the reason it took me that much time was also because it was over 1 GB large. OMFG last month I had like 125 GB left and now theres like 37 or somethin...
