Dear Maplers,

Kindly be informed that guilds with inappropriate guild names will be disbanded starting from 1st August 2006. This action arises from concerns expressed regarding guild names with offensive and illegal content.

Please be careful in any name selection in the future. Read the Terms of Use and respect all our rules regarding name selection. With effect from 1st August, any guilds found with inappropriate names will be disbanded without prior notice at the discretion of the administrators.

For simple reference, avoid:

Impersonation of GM names, NPCs, other chars
Sexual context
Obscene body organs
Vulgarity or otherwise offensive, or may cause confusion
Drug/Narcotic references
Action phrases or complete sentences such as "Youwillnotsurvive", "defameme", "killme".
Names that is may be illegal or may be protected by trademark or other proprietary rights laws
Names with reference to hacking activities such as "haaacker", "goodbotter"
Names that make no sense or created to confuse other users with letter masking such as "0liveOlL", "lksdjflij". (I.e. switching "i"s for "L"s and zeros for the letter "o").
Otherwise inappropriate.
If we believe you have created a guild name to mislead, confuse or annoy other players with the spelling of the name, the administrator will disband the guild. If you are concerned or in doubt about a name choice, we suggest you do not use it.

Update
Due to the overwhelming requests from players in Q-Box requesting for extension of time. The admins have decide to extend the dateline to 09 Aug 06 as a form of goodwill. For guilds who had a hard time gathering their guildmates, kindly make use of this coming weekend to reform your guild.

I think Wizet should DEFINITELY do this on Global. On Broa for example, there are such guilds as "FuckYou" or "FuckingNoobz", "naziHUNTERS" etc. More and more people get the idea so I think we'll see more of such names as time goes by.

It's about time they did something about the inappropriate guild names...

i think oms should do this too. also i once saw a guild named "itch" and their emblem is a big blue "B" is that still bad?

In Khaini there's a guild "uckYou" with an F as their emblem. =.=

Thanks. I have a character named XpsilocybianX...and, odds are, the Maple staff do not know the scientific name for magic mushrooms...but, if I get banned for that...its cencorship. >__> fascists!

Forget about the guild name problem. Wizet better freaking fix the verification code. I'm a NX User, what a scam I'd say. My NX time is going to waste.

yeah, they should do this in OMS too....I've seen soe very offensive guild names before...(ie: ITCH, UCkYOU, etc)

There should be an option to re-name Guilds.

While I agree there should be some type of guild renamng process, if you were smart you shouldn't have any problem with this rule at all.
You have to remember maple story if for all ages, that is including really young kids. If i had a child I would allow them to play this game because it's fun and really easy to learn. I would NOT want them seeing guild names saying vulgar things or anything my child may not want to see. You might think its cool that you got away with saying a curse word using a guild emblem, but in reality you might have also offended a lot of players and drove them away from the community. The world is already fucked up enough, do online games have to be as well?
Take the initiative and if you see a player or guild with an offensive name then report them. Take a screen shot and send to wizet. who cares if you're ratting them out, they obviously should have read the TOS.

Wizet understands that online games involve human interaction, and as a company they know they need to make it the most comfortable and inviting place they possiblycan. I can see why they are taking action on this and I hope it comes soon to GMS.

Exactly. And drug references are one of the things kids shouldn't see. Banning such character/guild names isn't stupid at all, I'm waiting for Wizet to introduce this rule in gms.
