Is Sonic trying to become Dragon Ball?

Many of you would have asked the same question years ago but I enevr did ask it so here I am. What's so good abotu sonic when it's simply a copy cat of dragon ball?

It's all a disgrace, Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis was the first video game EVER to grace my long journey in the hobby.

Ever since the arrival of "Sonic 3d" on Genesis and the Nomad, it ruined it for me.

Though, Sonic Adventures on the Dreamcast was fairly good.

But nothing beats old school sonic.

Well, many clips on Newgrounds shows that Sonic it goign suppa sayen and with those DBZ wannabe style of creating their flashes...drove me to think this. Also the games of it...it looks pretty much DBZ to me.

Its because of his Sayen looking form, and nah, Sonic is to cool to be a DBZ clone....

why not just try play an actually sonic game,or atleast watch a video

it just even him going out of space and ramming something after gathering 7 emeralds and 50 rings at the end of almost every game

If you watch to some of Sonic's cinematic from Games. At some point, he turn "Godl" *cough* sayen*Cough* then spam some "flying balls" toward something. Even in teh newest game going for Xbox360 and PS#, it contains some scene of that Super Sonic.

From view of it's 1st game to now. Sonic pretty became a flying hedgehog more than a spinny runner. It was all cool when gravity actually affected Sonic but now what? He just fly around bouncing from walls to walls. Not enough DBZ Right?

Since I barelly watched some clips from it's fan. Go watch Sonic on Newgrounds. You pretty much find Sonic to be a DBZ style character. " SUper sonic!! pwnnnns joo" whatever.

I dont mean THE GAME. I mean the concept Sonic turned into.

You mean Chaos? He's usually Chaos 0 (resembles Knuckles). You should play Sonic Adventure. It was the only 3d Sonic I really liked.

I liked the chao better in Sonic Adventure DX. It was faster and had cooler races.

sa2 had karate and kindergarden

SADX had better gardens. I did play SA2 more though. It was more in depth. It got old after I got the three chaos chao. I liked SA2 since there were plenty of unlockables, but after you've unlocked them, it wasn't fun anymore.

The Tails chao was pretty neat. I have a shiny normal Devil Chao. It was kind of a letdown. I was hoping it'd have different colors since shiny normal dark chao do.

Why do game companies always make crappy racing games for everything? Racing games suck 95% of the time, but you buy a game because you like the character on it, and one day later you can't play that crappy game anymore.

Take out out the guns, take out the hoverboards, bring back the long over the top looptiloop levels and you just saved the sonic franchise.

You cant compare the 2, simply because Sonic owned DBZ... Those games simply pwned DBZ games... those were the good old days... ahhh :(

I want to throw a few things into this and then make people think abit here

I used to watch the old sonic cartoons when I was a kid and read the comics.... and played the games. This was back when anime was not so OMG WOAH LOOK ITS EVERYWHERE!!!!1111oneoneone and before most people heard of "DBZ" so I grew up with super sonic and what not. Any more though people are like omg look sonic going super sonic .. DBZ rip off and thats what most people do in newgrounds and what not.

Heres a couple of differences SSJ can turn right off the bat really
Sonic has to have the 7 emeralds and 50 rings

SSJ=more power and what not and can't lose the power over a lost item
SS=More power and the abilty to fly and is screwed if loses just one emerald (taking from a show stand point)

So ya to all you people going OMG! SONIC IS SO DBZ .. WAAAA! Really go back to the roots you'll see sonic doing what he does, before DBZ really started to float around america.

Here's my simple answer. Sonic the Hedgehog, And Super Sonic, was, at LEAST a year or two before DBZ, it was created, probably similarly close to the time 'Dragonball' started. But I'm not sure of that. And the Super Saiyan BULLSHIT? Super Sonic now only makes like one appearance every game. Instead of going through a pain in the *** task of hitting a special zone and collecting the Chaos Emeralds. In which there were 6 in the old ones, seven in the new ones and in "Sonic Championship" or "Sonic the Fighters" There's 8. So you have to stop and ask yourself, what the hell is with the random amounts? Unless in Sonic the Fighters one was 'sposed to be the 'Master Emerald' AND, according to one of the games there are 14 total Chaos Emeralds but the other 7 disappeared or some crap...

FYI Dragonball was created before Sonic but, i think it was aired after Sonic started... and DBZ cant stand up to a video game legend. :p

Well damn, I didn't think DBZ wasn't out until the early 90's, I thought they were still running through the original Dragonball, HOWEVER That doesn't mean it was aired in America, which can go the same for Sonic the Hedgehog which was released in 1991 in America.

But still, I don't think there's any relation between DBZ and Sonic.

I think sonic is one of the few old-school games whose tranformation was for the better, like mario. Unlike bomberman, (that bomberman act zero... omg....) the new Sonic is pretty cool. If you've played the newer games, there more extreme (like sonic adventure 2, although shadow the hedgehog sucked) and his attacks are more than jumping and rolling into a ball, theres also a bit of melee moves in there. But how in the world is it a DBZ clone? That makes no sense.

BACK UP. Emperor Pilaf was in DRAGON BALL. AND GT ONLY.

IN DRAGON BALL, THERE WERE NO SUPER SAIYANS. There were giant monkeys, and only ONE saiyan, and a three eyed guy... BUT, that's besides the point, it was ORIGINALLY SIX EMERALDS, NOT SEVEN. The SEVENTH one came later. Big Deal Sonic Turns into a Gold color that shines (WHICH IT DID, IT WASN'T CRAPPY YELLOW) It was shiny gold. (or as shiny as Genesis could go) Furthermore... Robotnik, Eggman, Was shaped like an Egg, and is smart and quite dibolical. Pilaf, is a ****ing moron. 7 Dragon Balls power can't be harnessed to shoot a giant cannon to blow up the moon. What do you get from Dragon Balls? Some crappy wishes. Chaos Emeralds offer infinate power, insane speed, and shinyness.

Wtf... so what if theres a super sonic and emeralds... it doesn't mean that sonic is just like dbz... sure, they have about 2-3 similarities, but does that make one a rip-off of another?

I think I'll help you build off of this one a bit.

The Artwork is nothing alike, the characters attitudes are nothing alike, the basis of over bulkitized people and Constipation theory number 3 has no effect on Sonic, the over excessive amount of planet destruction and spaceships has no effect on Sonic. Storylines = complete mismatch. Backround stories = Complete mismatch. I think you people are basing this copycat theory on one dumbasses overstated opinion. Yellow?

What is a very expensive and flashy material? Gold! Why not make Sonic Gold? Well he looks bad *** that's why. Sonic Adventure 2 Shadow was Silver, what's next? You're going to say Shadow was a crappy rip off of an even WORSE anime? (Dragonball was totally better than DBZ. DBGT was just taking it too far...)

AND! I'm sick of everyone ripping on Shadow the Hedgehog. If anything, that was the only one to take a stick of dynamite-realism and shove it into an otherwise completely unrealistic game. Want to know how? Well... Shadow's abuse of guns and what not would make sense into destorying robots instead of walking up and jumping on them. Quite honestly that doesn't make it a bad game, sure it wasn't the best upgrade. And his abuse of Motorcycles and crap? Clearly from the beginning video jumping on a motorcycle and ramming it into an alien about six times his size, that's pretty much what the vehicles were MEANT to do, and fun to use for. Not to mention the ones that came with unlimited ammo for missions like destroying an overly powerful thing like the Black Aliens tank, or the Presidents Helicopter Plane-thing. (Which in the end STILL makes it out fine...) The controls are exactly the same, run, jump, homing attack. Just tossing in a few guns and shit doesn't make it a BAD game. If you ask me it's almost exactly like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle just with an added twist of realism and destruction. But... The worst part was the 'voice' upgrades, Pretty much everyone except, Sonic, Shadow, Knuckles, Amy, and Espio sounded stupid. ESPECIALLY CHARMY, GOD DAMN! IF ONLY YOU CAN TAKE ONE OF THOSE GUNS AND SHOOT HIM!!!! ARGH!!!!

You needed Phantasy Star Online on the Game Cube, a GBA, and the GC to GBA cable to get it.
