View Full Version : Requesting Browser-Based RPG

Hello there. For weeks I've been searching for a browser-based RPG that I could play online similar to the ever so popular (my ass, excuse my language) RuneScape.
After playing it for about three days, I grew to love the mining, woodcutting, fishing, and variety of skills. However I also grew bored.
I've tried playing other games similar to it with skills somewhat alike such as Syrnia and Ogre Island, but none of those games seemed to have what the skills in RuneScape had.
I know it may be asking for alot but if you know of any others that I haven't mentioned please say something. I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your time.

Syrnia is probably the closest you will get. I have searched for a VERY long time for a game like that but can't find one.

I'm just so horrible with Syrnia. It took forever to get anywhere and I can't say the community was the nicest during the afternoon or night and empty in the morning. No guild offerings unless you were a very, very good player at the highest level imaginable.

Well. You didn't look very well then. But if you choose to come back message me asking to join Anarchy. I will look over it and you VERY easily could join. I am the recruiter and your Total level doesn't matter to me very much. Its how you act and how your present yourself.
And the community is often rude because of the (Bleeping) noobs that think they are Gods like Gelgarin, Jester, and them. But just ignore them. So why not try again and we (Anarchy) can help you. Our leader Vertumnus1 is in the top 10 Most active players.
And yes the game is somewhat slow but its still fun. If you get bored just go AFK and come back every 10 minutes and insert the botchecks. And if your having trouble learning the game check out http://mystixs.funpic.org then make sure to read the manual found on the front page. And if thats not enough check out www.DW-HQ.com
Please do come back. If you join Anarchy we will all help you!
Hope you come back,

Dang... Another request for a game similar to runescape, but not boring.
This is truly a very elusive quest. I've heard that World of War Craft is good. But with all the games, grinding is an issue.
Good luck, you will receive 10 Quest Points for finishing this quest. lol.

Well it's not like RS or anything, but something you might wanna try is Well of Souls. It's a little slow, but you can build up skills, spells, etc. Not only can you play it MMO but it can be played stand alone as well. It give you a chance to build up a char a little before putting it online. It is also exceptionally hard to hack. There are cheats, but the game restricts the cheaters severly. As a matter of fact, cheaters and non-cheaters can barely interact, let alone do anything. Highly customizable, and replayable I like this game a lot when I get tired of my other games.

For those who want to play Wurm Online. Make sure you don't have an intel and you have a VERY VERY good graphics card cause the creaters didn't use their brains in the creation of the game.

Wurmonline was mentioned but it's pay to play, not free like Runescape. However, Wurmonline can be played up to level 20 for free. So if you don't mind this limitation, then you might enjoy it. The whole "feel" of Wurmonline was not something I favored though.
Judging by your preference to engage in several different elements of a game, you may enjoy Pardus. It's a space based PBBG which is quite different than the Medieval Runescape. But they both have something in common in that they will both keep you busy with lots of choices.
Check the link in my profile for more PBBG's. I have a list of the best, and a list of all known (WIP).

whats so great about Pardus anyway
it gets repetitive and the worst thing is that it is action points based, what if i have more spare time and i want to get immersive, you can`t thanks to AP`s
besides the universe looks colonised and resources taken
can`t they do something better than Pardus?
its about time

All games get repetitive and eventually even the best games lose players from boredom, this is the very nature of gaming. When you find one you like, then you play it till you no longer enjoy it then move on.
It sounds like you want me to convince you of Pardus. I won't try to convince you of any game. Try it if you wish, if not then find another game. A PBBG suggestion was asked for, therefore I'm suggesting one. As for me, though I use all APS daily, I've never needed any APS to enjoy Pardus.
In reference to the question: "can`t they do something better than Pardus". I'm not sure I understand this question. Who is "they" and define "better", then I may be able to answer the question.

When you say Browser based would that include text + graphics or does it have to be 3D java or flash?

when i say they i mean the game coders
i was thinking in general there
and i played pardus for 4 hours :D (using aps log out, loging again to move another square or so).fearing i wont make it to a starbase and remain unprotected, its definatelly not a game for me
by better this is what i want a game that you could play for 10 mins a day and not want to become someone in the game or that you could play for hours in a row if you were looking for top10 or fame
now its my turnt to ask you to define "I've never needed any APS to enjoy Pardus."
how is that

I see what you mean. So from your usage of the terms "they" and "better", yes they can do better. However, the term better is very biased. For example. Let's say that you have a life outside of gaming and as a result, you can never seem to climb the endless ladder to success. Everyone else is passing you by and you get nowhere. You realize that you are smarter than everyone passing you up and that the only reason they're level 134 and your level 18 is because they literally have nothing else to do but play all day long.
Now let's look at the action point system. Like you, I once disliked it; I didn't like someone else telling me how much I could play. But when I gave it a fair shot, I learned something interesting, that there is a difference between playing with brute force leveling hour after hour and playing with skilled force, maximizing your game time in the most efficient manner. The result is that you can now compete with others because you have equal or near equal action points.
Action points also add a challenge to the game and as for me, I'm attracted to games that challenge me. The last MMORPG I tried was too easy, I mastered it in no time and there was no challenge for me. In fact I was so bored with the game that I decided to write a guide for it because *that* was more fun than playing the game. Don't believe me Look here for my guide: http://whane.the.whip.googlepages.com/9dragonstome (yes, it's 50 pages long)
I'm not saying I don't like games that don't use some sort of action points system, I'm saying that regardless of the system, if the game is good I'll play it. Just like 3D graphics don't make a game good, lack of action points won't make a game good, however, a good game can be enhanced by good graphics and the installation of action points, or not ... it depends on how they are employed.
i played pardus for 4 hours :D (using aps log out, loging again to move another square or so).fearing i wont make it to a starbase and remain unprotected, its definatelly not a game for me
Hmm, well that's interesting. The reason I say that is because, well if you only played for 4 hours then you would not be in danger of attack by other players, that's because there is "newbie protection". You said that you feared not being protected ... well for me, the aspect of PvP is the most challenging aspect a PBBG can offer, therefore I like games with PvP because I like a challenge. I don't play games because they are easy, I play games because they are difficult to master. I mean who can brag about being a Checkers Master? On the other hand, to be a Chess Master means something much more. :-)
using aps log out, loging again to move another square or so
That's a little misleading and not the best way to play. You can hold up to 5000 APS per day, some can get a little more (I can earn up to 5100 for example). You actually earn more that 5000 APS per day, but you can only hold around 5K. One does not "move a sqaure" then logout and wait for APS. One waits half a day or something like that, then logs in and uses several 1000 APS. With 5000 APS and a decent drive on your ship (Better drives spend less APS) you can move huge distanced in Pardus. There is a great tool made by a friend of mine (Satyap) at http://pardus.butterfat.net/pardusmapper/maps/orion/universe.html, it's a map of the Pardus universe and it includes a built in calculator that will tell you how much APS you need to move from point a to point b. It's generally good to always make sure you have enough APS to make it to a planet or starbase to dock so you can't be attacked, and it's best to get into this habit early on as lots of players choose to be pirates and will attack or rob you onsite.
"I've never needed any APS to enjoy Pardus."
how is that
Excellent question, I was wondering if you would notice that I did not offer a reason, and you did. And this is why I don't need APS to enjoy Pardus. Because the social environment consisting of the other players is extremely rich and diverse. The result is that I can message others, set up private alliances, form secret armies of real players, and wage war against others without ever firing a laser from my own ship. In fact, if I were bountied and hunted by 1000 players in Pardus, I could still enjoy the game very much while sitting on a planet and doing nothing but communicating with others. For me, this is one of the biggest challenges in a PBBG, to influence others. It's one thing to say, I bought a new ship and it's real cool, it's another to say, I crushed an alliance consisting of 40 members, even now they have no idea I was behind it. I'm not saying I actually do that in Pardus, I'm only saying, that the environment is so rich that even if I didn't have any APS, I would still enjoy it. But I actually do like getting new stuff for my ship and in-game I'm a Guru hacker, I enjoy hacking other pilots (players).
Anyway, I probably gave you more information than you wanted. I've played lots of PBBG's, and I've looked at (but not necessarily played) every game on this Master PBBG List (http://repository.wikidot.com/). I can claim that because I made the list. ;-)
