Well, I just came across this, and thought it was really interesting. What do you guys think about this? Could it become the base line of creating new games, or become a breakthrough for people who need artificial limbs?
Personally, I think that this would be a great start for Virtual Reality, and just gaming overall. Having the ability to move things with your brain can certainly help a lot of game designers create more games. I hope the article isn't fake...but if it is, lets discuss what you'd do 'if' is happened.

.... I need that machine.
I'm quite happy with fingers and limbs as it is, but come on... that's like the first step into telekinesis. Let me have my fantasies :D
Anyways on subject, I'd imagine that machine cost a redunkulous amount of money, so it's kind of impractical and I wouldn't call it a "Breakthrough". But, It would be pretty sweet to controll anything with your mind, let alone Space Invaders.

I guess 'Breakthrough" isn't the right word, but It's still a great start for all those designers who want to create a virtual reality system.
Don't expect it to happen in this lifetime, it's just too complex.

It'd make more sense to have virtual-gloves and helmets before they whip out EEG mahcines.

But that's a different for of virtual reality. From what i know, there are two so called 'virtual realities'. One of then is where you put on gloves, and a helmet, and you play the game standing up. Kinda like the EyeToy for the PS2. But there is a more advanced type of VR, where you get 'transported' into the game, and you do everything you can. This is the type you see in some T.V. shows and all that.
I'm not sure if those are possible, but you never know. Some genius might just create the 'new level' of gaming; Virtual Reality.
Not only will this info help the gaming world, I'm sure those people who can't control their body parts will be helped. I just hope it won't cost too much. But this is just the beginning stages of something brilliant, so we shouldn't assume anything at the moment.

Using the brain to move icons in videogames is actually old technology. Its been used as a therapy for people with brain-damage for atleast a year or two. They orginaly had to move a small paddle and line it up with a ball, similar to pong, though the ball was reset upon reaching the paddle.

Yeah this is old stuff, i saw it on TV long ago, on a show about Xmen and science lol... Right now its really simple stuff but its possible to create... But then how would the computer process our other random thoughts? When you're halfway through a boss battle you suddenly think, "That heroine is soo hot" then you're console crashes. o_O

I think it would be so so in mmorpgs but imagine what would happen when you think of something nasty or rude? You'd do it in game then be hated.

Heh, that's kewl. But I'd rather have a Motion Sensitive Virtual reality, (multi direction tredmill, plastic gun, exercize while you game). But it's funny. Nobody really expects anything sci-fi like this to come for another hundred years. Yet it's happening now.
Think about how technology has changed in the past decade? From 2d games, to high tech 3d MMORPGs.

If that kid has epilepsy, he shouldn't be using a computer or tv at all.
Talk about bad parenting.

Sorry for this 'stupid' question, but what exactly is DNI? I've never heard of it.
As to everyone else, I'm sorry if this is old news. But what ideas in gaming do you think this will provide?

Just think of a Resident Evil VR game. O.o That would be scary, yet fun! ^_^
Ontopic: Meh...this is somewhat old news, but relatively new if you ask me. I mean, it's pretty amazing how far we've come in so short of a time. We're now just brushing the edges of Virtual Reality, when 30 years ago all we had was Pong. XD

I agree. We've gone through a lot in this century. Now if only technology advanced just as fast as it did before.
